  • USERIDs and Passwords

I probably have 50 sites that I have to have a User ID and Password for.

Do you have just one set you use, or something different for each, and a log you keep somewhere reminding you what they are?

What do you do about those that ask you to change them every now and then.

I keep a book with some. I still need to retrieve my passes for a lot of sites on a regular basis.

What's your method for keeping track of them?

I'm thinking it's about as safe to have one unlikely set you use for everything as to have different ones and keep them all written in one place.

I try to use a basic one on all sites. I'm too lazy.

I just use password12345678. It is alpha-numeric, and nobody would ever guess it...

One would. Well, that's close to nobody.

I use basically the same user id on most sites but I modify the password. I use the same beginning and then add a suffix depending on the site. For ex. if I were logging on to ABC mortgage, I would use my beginning - say it is "pwd", "pwd" + "abc" and my password is pwdabc.

I also have a list with the suffixes but it doesn't show the beginning e.g it would just show "abc". I also keep my userid on the list, if it differs from the norm but I use a coding that I understand. DH would be SOL if something happened to me.

I use several for each and do not keep a written record. If I forget one I just have them send it to me. If I get alzheimers I could be in trouble--but then I would be in trouble anyway.

Something tells me if someone found your list it wouldn't help them.

I use eWallet. It is an application that you can have on multiple PCs as well as mobile devices (iPhone, Android, iPod Touch, iPad, etc.) and they will all sync together. It stores all your passwords, accounts, whatever you want in an encrypted fashion.

I like it because of all the different platforms it supports and I know I have any of my personal information accessible to me at any time, anywhere. It is not free, but well worth the price IMO. They have a new version called eWallet GO that syncs via the cloud, but has a few less features.
