Frank, You are just coming to that conclusion now? LOL

Robert, I have no idea about the chromebook but have loved all my samsung phones. Their tablets are also very highly rated.

I could use a laptop and the price is good, but I know you can't get something worthwhile for free.

We have a Samsung refrigerator. Seems fine! That doesn't mean their chromebook is any good.
        Anyone own one????

I have been a big fan since I got my pc-hating wife one for Christmas last year. She loves it as it's small, boots quickly, has no need for anti-virus, anti-malware, etc, is fast, handles everything she wants to do on the web and I like it because it's not Windows (so maintenance is zero), battery life is excellent, no set up or update hassles and was very inexpensive. I even sprung for the 3G model so she doesn't even know if she's on WiFi or Verizon 3G (and doesn't care). Even the 3G service is free for 2 years!

It is a great value and the way the world is heading. No fat client just a simple interface to the Web & everything else is from there. We've yet to find anything we can't open and run except Sling Box and they say a player is in the works "soon". Even stuff in Word or Excel that often won't open correctly in the true product from MS due to version conflicts open fine on the Chromebook and the software is free. Super secure as there is nothing really stored on it but some bookmarks. And of course you need a password to get to your cloud storage.

All in all I've now sold over 25 to people that came in wanting an inexpensive laptop. They left with something much cheaper to buy and operate. I recommend it highly. As for Google "taking over" - far better them than the money grubbers at Apple or Microsoft. There has to be a leader of the industry and so far Google is the best of the bunch. Go for it.

I've been thinking about one, too.

Just have all the stuff in this Dell put in a new one. Can they do that?

I received one for Mother's Day. Haven't used it much, but like what I have seen so far.

It doesn't run a conventional operating system such as Windows 8, Mac OS X Mountain Lion or even a straight Linux distro such as Ubuntu.
Instead, it is essentially a computer that does one thing: run a web browser.
In this case, of course, the web browser in question is Google Chrome.

                  So much for me.

All I did was goggle google chromebook, and now I have a google chrome icon on my desktop, not in order but all by itself.

Do you think it "loaded" google chrome, or do you think I already had it?
