  • need to buy a new printer

this is for our summer place, Walmart has about three printers int he store, so I could drive about 40 minutes to a Staples.
I am not sure what to get, lots of people say get a laser printer, but I am not sure how many copies you get from one. Anyhow, what would you advise, knowing the printer goes unused for about 7 or 8 months a year. also, is wireless the way to go?
also any advice about on line sources for the printer.

I bought a brother black and white laser printer.
it prints what seems like thousands of pages
I use it mostly for printing postage
I find I dont miss the having to replace the Color ink when I am not even using it. Was a total waste of money.
The cartridge costs $75 but is cheaper than those little ink cartridges that only last a few hundred pages.
Not sure if it will last months without use though.

I've had good luck with HP printers over the years. I currently have 3; 2 HP 8600 Officejet Pros (one in each location) and an old HP laser left over from my working days. I had bad luck with an Epson once, so went back to HP. Try Costco, or someplace like that.

I've had good luck with HP, but I also found them annoying until I learned how to curtail the messages. I guess what you get will depend on what you need. I have 2 types of printers that I use. One just prints in B&W and color, while the other prints, scans and copies. They both are wired ink jets and the simple one gets used more often. I'm sure they cost me under $ 40 each.

We use a Brother Lazer printer and it seems to work great even after sitting for long periods with no use. You can get a Brother Laser pretty cheap now a days and yes the cartridge seems to go on for a long long time.

If you let an inkjet printer sit for 7-8 months, I guarantee you will need to buy new cartridges everytime you come back. Laser is definitely the way to go in your situation.

I leave the cartridges in refrigerator when my ink jet sits for long times. Learned that the hard way with the Epson.

Does it extend the time of the ink or make it last longer. I have an Epson and buy the knock off brands. Only problem I get is that the printer sometimes thinks the cartridge is empty when there is still a lot of ink in it. There is no way to reset the chip so I have to send the ink back to where I got it from.

I spend a lot on ink in Florida, usually get by with one cartridge in Wisconsin. what I should have done, and I considered it but forgot, is bring my all in one to wisconsin from florida and got myself a really nice new one in florida.
costco would be great, but i am not a member and it is 60 miles away. i am in a fairly remote area for shopping unless you want tshirts, or waterslides.
iwhen i have time, i will look at staples online and see what it costs to ship one.

bought a wireless samsung laser printer, got it together in no time, started the installation wizard, and my computer would not recognize the printer. I tried installing with my own computer and then spent about two hours on the phone with the samsung person, who had me plug, unplug, repeat, over and over and finally said someone would call me in 34 to 48 hours to help me install the driver. it appears my computer won't recognize their driver and I plan to return the printer tomorrow.
