I hear good things about Brother printers and will be looking into them.

I have an Epson at work that takes regular paper and 11X17" paper. It is 11 years old, prints a lot and still works fairly well. When my current ink supply is exhausted, I will replace this with something that will handle the same paper.

I have an HP 6500 wireless. It is 3-4 years old. Figured it would be good for my laptop printing or the hardwired desktop. I believe it uses more ink per page than the Epson.
It has some nice features (double side printing, scanning, etc) but has some faults. I can't get it to scan to the desktop, wireless printing is hit and miss with more misses than hits.

Whatever I get for home, cost per page will be a high consideration for me. At work, it is cost and paper size.

Another fan of the Brother Laser Printer. We currently have a Brother 2270DW. We had the 5120 for a long time. I have been using Brother Laser printers since about 2005 when we bought our first one and I was creating bulletins for our church each week from home. It was a small church, but I still made 125-150 each week wand printed on both sides. The 2270DW is not only wireless, but will automatically duplex. The church paid for my cartridges, but most of my printing then was for them. Now I think the toner cartridges last 1500 pages. We by replacement cartridges on-line. We like these so well that we usually have a spare in the closet so that if ours "dies" we have a replacement. Just gave our spare to our D-I-L last week when she was working on a project and her HP bit the dust.

i am concerned if it is something with my computer, because it wouldn't recognize the new printer, and when i troubleshoot the old printer, it says there are no problems, it sends to printer, but nothing happens.

Get a laser printer. No need to worry ink drying out. Unless you have multiple users and do lots of printer, I would not spend extra for wireless.

Have tried to rest the chip yourself? You can get a chip resetter on ebay for $11:

Sometime they forget to reset the refilled cartridges.

Have you downloaded the Drivers? You may have to originally set it up with a USB to the computer the first time - once you have it set up, you can then disconnect the USB connection. If you have a "one touch" router, it will automatically connect when you push a button.

It would not download the driver, I had the disc in and the USB cord in (which you need for the first connection).

I was told it keeps them from drying out if left in refrigerator. Not had problem with ones I stored there for four months or so. Of course, you have to leave refrigerator turned on.

                  ps. Answering BigFranks question.

Laser printers use a dry powder and the drum heats up when the printer is running to make the "ink" stick. There is no expiration date, so for a printer that is not used regularly, these are great. Mine is used all the time and makes perfect copies and no smudging when they have just been printed.

I do have an Epson Scanner/Printer, but seldom print on it because the cartridges do "dry up" within a year. I use it to scan documents and save them as PDF files that can be printed as needed on the laser printer. I have photos printed at Costco or someplace where I can do it myself and get better quality photos. When you factor the cost of printing photos at home it is cheaper to do them elsewhere and the quality is usually better. (That is also why we have not purchased a color laser printer.)

It appears my computer won't recognize their
driver and I plan to return the printer tomorrow.
What system is your computer on Windows XP, 7 or 8?
Did you check the system requirements for the printer?

If your computer is running Windows XP
you may need to install Service Pack 3.

Success, I went to Walmart yesterday and bought an HP wireless printer and installed it successfully. Unfortunately, it is not a laser printer, but since i am only here 4 or 5 months, I should do alright with the ink jet. Only problem is I had to put on top shelf and all the buttons are on top, so i will need a stool if I have to copy or scan anything.
