  • More Poor Performance

I mentioned that I had my LT optimized and that it was operating extremely well:

    http://www.timeshareforums.com/forum...-AVG-PC-Tuneup

Now it's not. It has picked something up and now there is an aggravating delay.

If I place the cursor, for instance, it is 4 or 5 seconds before I can do anything else.

So, when the tech did what he did down there, don't you think he just downloaded some type a "clean-up" program, and then ran it?

If I still have it, couldn't I just run it?

I can dig up his invoice, because he put everything he did on it, as I recall before I put it on my huge pile. Maybe it's on my smaller pile down there.

Download this and run it: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
Put a shortcut on your desktop. After you run it also run the registry cleaner. Run it ever couple of months. It will clean up unnecessary stuff and your registry. Use the free version unless you want a slightly better program.

According to your original post, it has been 2 months since you LT was optimized. You really should do it every week or so. You could very likely have "malware" that is slowing it down. I doubt it is a virus though it is possible. Typically viruses make your computer inoperable, not just slow it down.

You can find out what processes are slowing it down from the task manager.

        1. Hit "ctl-alt-del" at the same time and the task manager will come up.
        2. Click on the "Processes" tab at the top and this will display all the processes.
        3. Click on "CPU" ( 3rd column ) twice and you should see "System Idle Process" at the top of the first column. If you aren't running any other application the "System Idle Process" should be using 99% of the CPU time.

The processeses are ordered from the top down by which is using the most CPU time. You can do a search for any process that is hogging a lot of time or post it here if you can't do the search.

I have used Advanced System Optimizer for several years to keep my comuters tuned up and free of Malware. Advanced System Optimizer is very robost and is rated number 1 by the majority of prodessional reviewers. It is not free but you can get it for $29-39. They also have excellent tech support.
