  • Contact comcast or Apple?

My comcast email acc't was hacked and comcast caught it and froze my account. About 10 emails were attempted, some to known people and some to unknowns, but to my knowledge none went thru. My comcast acc't is under dh's acc't but my own email address. I tried to change my password on line but too many complications. Long story short, I had to go to a comcast "store" and show proof of dh's ss# and then call camcast's security assurance again and change my password". So far so good.

As of now I can both send and receive email on my computer but can only receive it in my ipad. I'm guessing it is a settings problem but my settings are exactly the same as. Dh's. So I'm not so sure. Any advice from anyone?

Get an independent email account like Yahoo or Gmail. If you ever leave Comcast you will have to leave that account-with an independent email you never have to change.

Kay, when I was recently in Aruba, I had the same send receive problem. I got an error message I believe. I googled the error message and was able to find the fix online. I changed the setting on the iPad and that fixed the problem. When I returned home, I changed the setting back and it worked.

On your IPad, I think you have to change your password to the new one if you haven't yet done that. Go to settings, mail, contacts, calendar, then select Comcast, then scroll down to password. (Hope this is correct, I don't have Ipad, so using IPhone.

Ok. I followed Tony G's advice and opened a G mail acc't. I had already put my new password in the comcast email settings but did it again several times to be sure. I tried googling the error message but google didn't help me out. My outgoing server is "SMTP" without the quotes. My error message says "SMTP kayhXXXX@smtp.com.net" is incorrect. My email address does not include the letters smpt. My settings are exactly the same as DH's. I called the Apple store today and a non tech could not help me so I guess I'll have to call again on Monday or get my rear end down there after Christmas.

Thanks for your suggestions but i am open to any more.

Pat G, id the out going server for the iphone smtp? If so i'll give you a phone call and maybe we can work it out together.

We are talking both iPhone and iPad ….

Go to settings then Mail, Contacts, Calendars

            then choose Comcast - Mail

            it should read

            INCOMING MAIL SERVER

            Host Name mail.comcast.net
            User Name kayhXXXX
            Password ********

            OUTGOING MAIL SERVER
SMTP mail.comcast.net > (hit this little arrow)

            PRIMARY SERVER
mail.comcast.net On > (hit the little arrow)

            Server (ON)

            OUTGOING MAIL SERVER
            Host Name mail.comcast.net
            USER NAME kayhXXXX
            Password *******

Under the PRIMARY SERVER there could also be
            OTHER SMTP SERVERS

I have two others listed there…one is AT&T SMTP Server that I had to use at a particular resort in Aruba…

            Hope this helps.
            Otherwise, call me.

Pat, that is what my settings say. I think it won't accept my new password unless there is a place to EDIT my info. I think it expects my old pw. Is there an EDIT blank?
              .

No place to edit. Just take out the old password and plug in the new.

Thanks, Pat. I already did that about 10x. I guess I'm off to the apple store on Thurs. i'll let you know the outcome. It is probably something simple that I just don't see.

Well how about this...there is a place to in the outgoing to "add server". Why not try to add in your "new settings" there and see if it will work.

Kay, would this help you? See #4 under other. I can use GoDaddy or the Apple iCloud server (instructions). Apple will help you but also any store that sells Apple stuff too but not before Christmas as they may be too busy. The Apple guys and gals are always very helpful but so is the gang at Best Buy too.
