  • iPhone stuck in recovery mode.

So I finally decided to update my stupid iphone 4s to 6.1OS since the Disney app wouldn't work on the lesser OS.
Mistake! Now the phone won't do squat!
    It's stuck in recovery mode.
Keeps telling me to restore it to factory settings thru iTunes.
    What a piece of crap.

So I'll lose all my data?
I don't have it backed up on my computer cause it never seemed to synch correctly.
So now my whole life that is in this stupid phone is gone with one stupid upgrade.
I am so pissed right now.

    Anybody have this happen?
I guess I'll have to go to the Apple store cause I doubt the tech support in the Philippines is going to be of much help.

    Chris,

I'd make an appointment at the Genius bar and go into the Apple store. I vaguely remember something like this happening to me, but can't remember what I did.

Damn phone lost all my contacts and had to be reformatted.
I let the Apple geek I know try but he said no way to save the info so took it to Sprint and they reset it for me.
But all my email addresses, phone numbers and pictures are gone, gone, gone.
And all the apps I had have to be re-installed.
What a big pain in the butt.

I hate to be That Guy, but...

Don't *ever* upgrade the OS on anything without having it backed up first. Make sure you can get it to sync now, so this doesn't happen again!

I'm afraid to plug it into my computer again and have it freeze up on me again.
I never could get the darn thing to synch because for some reason icalendar doesn't synch with iphone.
What a piece of crap. I never had this problem with Outlook but iCalendar is garbage.
And now the darn thing is pinging nonstop with all the emails and I can't figure out how
            to turn it off.

Sheesh, this is just beyond frustrating.
If it wasn't gonna cost me $600 to replace this dumbphone then I'd throw it off the balcony
and watch it die like it did to pretty much my life at this point. My whole year and past
year was in that phone. Appointments, vacations, phone numbers, email addresses.
            Ugggggh.

And now I want to put in the Disney app but I'm afraid to kill the darn phone again.
Disney sent me these beautiful boxes with little memory sticks in them with Mickey's on them.
It takes you to the website where it tells you to download the app.
Don't do it if you have an old dumbphone. My phone is only 2 years old but
apparently it's dumb enough not to recognize a stupid Disney app.

I've had every generation of iPhone except the 1st gen and never have had the problems you're experiencing.

The Apple store reps are very helpful and will be happy to get everything in order for you. Maybe you need to take all the gear down and let them show you. The new OS doesn't need to sync to a computer anyway. It just syncs to the cloud.

I took my iPhone for a swim in Aruba

                  Yup….

Luckily I had "the cloud" so all my pictures were also on my iPad and Mac
and I use a free program called "Backup Assistant" with syncs all my contacts once a month on schedule or when ever I think about it.
And my iCal is also in "the cloud" so I didn't lose anything …man, was I lucky!
For all my apps, I just logged into my iTunes account and downloaded them all again.
Prior to taking my phone for a swim, I had upgraded to IOS7 without difficulty, my iPhone 4 was about 2.5 years old at the time.

Could it have been your 'less then legal" items that caused your phone to flip out???

And yes, always do the back-up, so sorry for your loss.

Yes apparently it was possibly the jail breaking that sent it in a tail spin although Sprint didn't seem to notice.

Well apparently at one time or another I did manage to synch this thing with my computer cause many of my contacts are back but the calendar is caput.
And I thought they put 6.1 but it's a 7 generation software instead.
Oh well, it is what it is at this point.
Now to regather up emails and phone numbers.

Ooo, yeah... depending on the jailbreak, most of them disable the over the air updates and warn you to do a restore before actually doing a legit software upgrade that you want.

So, I've been known to jailbreak mine as well, but also never had any of those problems.

I only sprung it to use the my-wi app.
I only use it on vacation and now most resorts have free wifi so it's not such a big perk anymore anyway.

That's why I used it too---but much less often now that I have a TMobile iPad with no international data surcharges.
