GPS on Cell Phone

How much data does using GPS (Google Maps) use while using it on the road? I have a Tom Tom that I bring on trips and on a lot of trip could use my iphone. But not sure how much data it uses, does anyone know?

I used my cell phone when our GPS went belly up on a trip. It was in Kansas City and the hotel was not all that far from the airport. I'm not sure how much data it used, but the battery on my phone was drained pretty quickly. If you have a plug in for your phone that goes into the car that wouldn't be a problem.
