Just received the following notice from our Systems Administrator at work:
Microsoft issued a group of critical security updates on Tuesday 8/8/2006.
According to Microsoft and several other security sources, it is imperative
that these updates be applied to computers running Windows XP or Windows
2000 immediately. One of the patches in this group, MS06-040, fixes a flaw
that could allow the computer to become infected with a very serious worm
similar to the Code Red Worm, or the Blaster Worm. Such an infection can
have serious effects on both the computer and the internet. Microsoft
feels that virus writers may be close to releasing code on the internet that
will infect vulnerable computers.
So if your computer is not set to automatically install updates, make sure you do so.
