They both contain Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. The other editions of MS Office contain additional modules.

MS will not allow me to update my Office 97 anymore.....so I need to get the new version as well......where are the deals?"If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."

Our more or less local Staples has the Office student and teacher edition for $ 129.99 this week, I've also seen some deals on the internet. The advantage I see is that the student and teacher edition can be loaded onto 3 computers.

This lighter version doesn't have everything that our full version had that we got with our Dell but we must not have been using these features because I do everything now that I did before. I also put it on both PCs and registered each one with Microsoft. It won't work if you don't give them the key so you need to register each computer. This way both computers are constantly updated with all the changes they make in that software too.
We bought ours at Best Buy.

I haven't really checked the newer vesions, but the version we bought our son in 2003 did not contain Access or Publisher. Also the student and teacher version could not be upgraded with later versions. He was disappointed that it didn't have Publisher, but since I had it on my computer he didn't really lose anything.
It is a great version for home use, and school use as it contains, IMHO, the three most useful programs for home and school: Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
It was available at CompUSA for $119.

The great thing about the student teacher addition is you can load the software on up to 3 computers.
I got ours last year for $110 at Best Buy. Just added it to the laptop over the weekend.
I love the help section especially when I am doing something I haven't done in a while.Lawren
