Lost a DVD from a boxed set

My son lost one of the DVDs from a boxed set of DVD. Short of buying another set (only comes as a boxed set) what are our options in replacing the missing DVD.

Can we duplicate a rented /borrowed DVD?
Is the DVD replaceable in any way?

Bill what DVD is it and which # DVD is it. It can be recorded and mailed out if someone here owns the set and has a DVD burner.

Ironically, the lost DVD is the final disk from "Lost" season 2

We are able to rent it from the local blockbuster and have a computer with both a DVD player and a DVD recorder but I don't have a clue how to copy it.

Worst case but not the right way to get it morally. Join Netflix or another mail order DVD Comp. After a few weeks, You do know mail gets lost once in a while as well right?

As far as I know, it is legal for a person to make a back-up of any DVD he owns.
