  • Computer Virus Warning......

I received this warning from a friend, so I am passing it on, just in case....

I checked snopes.com and this is for real.. Get this sent around to your contacts ASAP...we don't need this spreading around. PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS:

You should be alert during the next days: Do not open any message with an attached filed called "Invitation" regardless of who sent it, It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch which "burns" the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list, that is why you should send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it. If you receive a mail called "invitation", though sent by a friend, do not open it and shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by Microsoft as the mostdestructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept SEND THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW , COPY THIS E-MAIL AND SEND! IT TO YOUR FRIENDS AND REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I checked this out on several sites and it is another hoax.
Many of these things get started and while they are not real viruses the message makes it appear as if they are and cause people to worry about them. The best idea when you get a message sent to you of this type is to 1) not open it 2) check it out on one or two of the hoax sites, like Snopes or Hoaxbusters. Keep in mind that although many such as this one are hoaxes and not real viruses, that some are actually real so you should always use caution.
Here is a link to the info on this one on Symantec's & Snopes sites:

Ken...Thanks for clearing this up. I should have checked snopes myself, but I trusted my friend. He is usually pretty reliable with this kind of stuff. Not this time.

        Angela,
No problem. These things come up all the time and always look like they are real. I'm sure your friend thought so. The old better safe than sorry thing.
The thing I don't understand is what the thrill is that the folks that start these things get.

Maybe they haven't the know how to create a virus, so the hoax is a second best.
