  • Web Browser Question

Okay, I've read all over different computer bulletin boards that Firefox is "safer" than Internet Explorer. Can anyone tell me why, or point me to an article that addresses this issue that was written in the last six months? I've found plenty of documentation....from 2004 . Since I know things in the computer world move fast, I'd like some more recent evidence.
    Thanks in advance!

I am no expert on this but my understanding is for two reasons. First, Internet Explorer doesn't follow standard HTML coding in some situations. There are some sites that code specifically for Internet Explorer but don't display well when using Firefox or other browsers (or other operating systems). Second, Microsoft attempted to integrate the browser more closely with the operating system as part of its marketing scheme to make it an integral part of its system (and thus raise the cost of the operating system by declaring that it provides more functions). As such, it left it open to anti-trade policies (another issue) but it also left it open to attacks on its systems as it allows hackers to have a layer or two less to go through to get into the operating system.

Internet Explorer 7.0 is an abomination. It shuts down here about 3 times a day. If you don't have it, don't get it- at least until they get the bugs out next year. Firefox has had a couple of upgrades since I first started using it and the only site I have had any trouble accessing with it in months is my own website, and that is just a minor little aberration. At least Firefox doesn't shut down due to errors several times daily, heck I don't think it ever did. I think I will not even think about Vista for a year or so.
