  • Dial Up for Timeshares that do not have wireless

What is your recommendation for a dial up service to use while timesharing?

Currently use AOL, but I am ready to get rid of it, but still want to have the ability to use dial up.

At home we have Charter High Speed internet, but want to have a back-up to wireless when we travel in case the resort does not have high speed internet.

Ma Globe. MaGlobe Prepaid Internet Access - Home, Travel & International use

You prepay by the minute, but its cheap enough as long as you remember to disconnect when you are not online. I usually take the $29.99 plan and it is enough for the whole year...it is 56 hours. That doesn't sound like much, but on an average vacation you probably wouldn't be online more than 10-15 hours total. Unless you will be online a lot more than that, it doesn't make sense to keep an AOL account.

Ma Globe has access numbers almost everywhere. I've only once not been able to connect and I've used them for years.

When you get ready to go you can use a trial AOL account (x no. of hours) and then cancel after you get home.
Also if you have a high speed service at home that is one of the major ones many times they provide a dial up just for the occasions when you are traveling. I know my Road Runner does this and has toll free numbers in a lot of cities.

I have high speed at home, but before my last trip I downloaded prepaid dial-up software on to our laptop before we left. I tried this company called MyTravelAccess.

MyTravelAccess - Global ISP for Travellers

MyTravelAccess is a dial-up Internet service that you can use anywhere in the world without a new monthly bill. You will receive unfiltered, unrestricted access to the Internet so you can use all of your regular Internet applications such as Email, Instant Messaging, Chat, and News. MyTravelAccess is a Pay-As-You-Go service. You only pay for the connection time you need. The price is $9.95 for 20 hours of online service.

It worked very well for the four days that we were gone. There are numerous numbers across the country that can be accessed as local phone calls and some 800 numbers. The 20 hours is good for one year and can be added to at anytime.

Just another suggestion for when you need to use a dial-up connection.

                AOL Dial Up Plan

Does anyone know if you have an AOL Dial Up Account, can more than one screen name access AOL at the same time from different phones? For example, if we are off timesharing and using dial up and my daughter at home has to use it as a backup to cable, can we both do it at the same time?
