For better or worse, I have ordered
Verizon high speed internet for $19.99 per month. Won't be activated till the 28th.

Now I hope they send the proper router. I'm told it will be Westell 327W.
I wish to operate from 2 PCs, wireless.

Maybe someone can tell this newbee, does my PC have to on for the other PCs to operate?

OK, so now I have the "self-install" kit. They sent an Ethernet Cable to be connected between the Westell 327W and my PC.

The only place that cable fits on my PC is labeled LAN. Is LAN the same as Ethernet, as far as connecting to HSI over the phone line?

As far as I know it is.

Trust Verizon, Robert. You will love your DSL or ADSL or whatever they call it next to a dial-up connection. FiOS is a lot faster yet and it will come to your neck of the woods too eventually.

Verizon came to our area again today and we now have a package offered for everything. It includes local and long distance telephone, FiOS and television too instead of DISH or regular cable or telephone. Everything will be fiber optics in one package. I had a telephone call today too and the price was better than I pay now by having everything seperately. We may switch.

I like the woods and if that has to go to get upgrades, we'll stay dialup

Maybe CELL will be included by the time they come to us.

I know 1AM got here before CA. I'm going to bed. I was hoping to upload Yellowstone pix but have to call Verizon tommorow about the ethernet connection. Couldn't get the package to operate.

              Thanks and good night.

Robert, try the DSL or ADSL where you are. You will like it so much better than dial-up connection you have now.

By the way, I love your wooded property as I saw the pictures you showed us once before. We are like sardines packed together in a little tin but that's the way it is in our area but you can't beat the climate.

I agree with Emmy about Verizon. I have had Verizon FIOS ( 15 MBPS ) for 18 months now and I love it. I got their FIOS digital cable 3 months ago so now I have a package deal with Internet, phone, and cable. I may switch my cell phone to Verizon next month as well. Since having the FIOS telephone service, my FAX works much better than before.

Setting up an Ethernet Internet connection - Windows XP

Make sure that Verizon has installed the DSL Filter
on the main line and connected you to the system.
Install all of the dsl/phone filters that you received
on all of your phone lines inside the house/garage

If I go wireless, I buy wifi cards for each pc?
