  • Navagation GPS that works every where

I have built in Nav in my cars but I can't take it with me on vacation. I have been looking around for a portable Nav that will work in Germany, Greece,, Austria, Mexico and Canada as well as other European areas.

Any recommendations on what model to look for?

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

      Frank,
the magellan 760 roadmate has European maps, but they have to be unlocked and the cost for that option is ~ $ 150.00. I believe Garmin has European maps also.

Looks like Garmin just came out with the Nuvi 370 and the 670. They both contain US and European maps but not Mexico. Price is over $600 so I will wait for a price drop.

Garmin sells European map software. So if you happen to have one of the units that you can download to you should be able to just purchase the software and download it into the GPS unit.

If you have a Garmin it might be worth the time to give them a call.

I did call Garmin. That is how I found out about the 370 and the 670. If I buy a different model that I purchase the maps separately the cost saving comes to about $50. To purchase the maps cost as much as buying a unit. One other option is to wait it out to see if the price comes dome by July. If not then I could buy it while in Germany or in Austria.

Yes my PC phone had that option a few months ago. I was going to buy the software just before I went to California. When I went to buy it on the Sprint site I was shocked to find that they stopped selling it. Not sure what happened maybe it did not work good and they pulled it off.

Will the digital speaker for directions be in English or German?

I believe you can pick many languages once you have it started. Good thinking though I should make sure first.

I own a Garmin and I love it. Prices seem to be dropping on these units and I think it's a safe bet that they'll keep coming down. Buying it while you're in Europe could end up costing you more. My Brother lives in Germany and always waits until he gets back into the US to make any electronic purchases. The prices here are much cheaper.

I am looking at some GPS systems now.

I ended up renting cars that had built in Nav, I might still get one when I get a good deal. No rush because both the cars I own now have built in Nav
