My Compter Crashed!!!!

I need help!!!! My computer won't work. I can get email but that's all. Anything that I need to link goes to the internet. Then, I can't get back to email. I can't do internet at all. (I am at work)

It all started when I got a email to update my internet explorer. Everything comes up (I think) cause when I try to shut off my computer something comes up and said program is ending, and it seems like a gazillion

Is it a virus or what is wrong? Help Shaggy

Do you have an updated virus scan? If not if you can get online you can do an online scan by going to Antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, firewall. Protect yourself with Panda for free.
You can also try back dating windows to a date when your computer was working.

You can restore your computer to an earlier time period before you made the last change. Read this link here:

Use System Restore to Undo Changes if Problems Occur.


Here is only part of the text for you.

Through the All Programs menu:

1. Click Start.

2. Point to All Programs.

3. Point to Accessories.

4. Point to System Tools.

5. Click System Restore.

6. Follow the instructions on the wizard.

The default setting is in "Restore my computer to an earlier time", click on that and choose the last bold date. Follow all the prompts and you will be OK. I hope this helps.

Shaggy, Microsoft doesn't send e-mails to notify you of an update. You may have a virus. If you dont't have a virus program, you can run run at housecall.trendmicro.com .

Emmy, I couldn't even get into doing what you said and I have printed it out. So I called Time Warner roadrunner and they said there was a clich in the explorer 7 and they have to fix it while I am on the computer so they gave me a tic no and I'll call them tonight when I get home. ( I am at work) She said I was not the only one almost all of their customers have been affected and has been a nightmare. Hopefully I'll have it resoved tonight . shaggy

Shaggy, keep the instructions handy as you may need it one day. I have used it already several times and it worked.

I had trouble with IE 7 and went bacl to IE 6. I mostly use firefox tho as it has much less in the way of problems than IE. Of course with roadrunner, you always have that Coyote running around and causing mischief.

Still havin problems on this site with IE 7 ~~ Doesn't happen on Firefox ~~ Don't have any problems on any website usin IE7 other than this one ~~ Hate to say this but even "TUG" I don't have any problems ~~ No Frank ~~ it isn't the beer down here as you know I only drink Crown Royal "Reserve" ot "XR" on the rocks ~~ This is the only site that gives me a "bad" page when viewin "New Messages" ~~ Doesn't bother me but Ken must have take a very long vacation ~~ Ha Ha ~~ Had to throw that in ~~

I feel ripped off!!

Called time warner/rr and they said they could not help me but to call Hewlett Parckard as that's what I owned. Called, and one lady said we could fix it and turns me over to tech support. Since my warranty was out of date they would have to charge me either $50 for 14 days or $100 for a year. I was so pissed at the computer I paid the $100. It took us over 2 hrs more like 3 but they got it back to original as was the day I bought it. Yes, I lost everything, and I think I lost all my addresses!! Then they tried to sell me Norton for $50. Turned that down and called rr this morning. She said rr had there own version for free and after another hour or so we got it installed.

I could have hugged both of these people!! Called back time warner & told them how I felt ripped off as they said they could handle it for me and asked them to credit my account. They said they couldn't so I asked could I at least have a pay per view or something? He went to the supervisor and got that ok'd so I feel better as I am now going to get wrestlemania free ($50) value. They did this as I had been with them for so long and I was never late on my bills. Oh well, I feel mostly vindicated. shaggy

If the problem was simply restoring it back to the state it was in prior to your problem, then I do not see where you should have lost any data. You should have been able to do a system restore to an earlier date prior to your problem. You do not lose any data when you do a system restore. If you couldn't have started the system restore from normal mode then you could have booted up in safe mode and done it.

I have been using IE 7.xx for several months with no problems and I access a lot of web sites.
