  • AOL Dial-up

I have an AOL account that I pay so that I can use both dial up and high speed board band - cable.

I have several accounts for people in my family. The question I have is if one of them is using dial up at home, can I still use dial up while at a timeshare?

It depends which plan you have. I pay $7.99 and get unlimited Cable but only 10 hours dial up. It is best you call them to be sure before you get charged extra.

      AOL dial-up

It used to be that only one person per account could be logged on at any time, but with all the internet access that probably has changed. I also keep an el-cheapo AOL dial-up for usage when traveling and can't quite convince myself to give it up yet.

        Using AOL's dial-up while vacationing

I have an AOL account that I pay for so that I can use both dial up and high speed board band - cable.

I have several accounts for people in my family. The question I have is if one of them is using dial up at home, can I still use dial up while at a timeshare?

        Hello & g'evening Riverdees05,
I too use AOL, we pay $9.95 a month and bring in our own ISP.
We've been w/ AOL since they came out.
The reason why I don't give it up is so I can use it exclusively via dial-up when we travel.
If you pay $9.95 per month for AOL and bring in your own ISP (We use Charter's cable modem.) you get unlimited dial-up.
Well, we do because I made sure our account was set-up that way.
While @ home I access the net and AOL via cable modem.
My daughter who lives across town in an apartment uses our AOL account and is on dial-up while I am on using cable.
We are both on AOL @ the same time, in fact; my hubby is on it too here @ home in the living room using the laptop.
So that's 2 using AOL via cable modem and 1 using AOL via dial-up all @ the same time.
When we are on vacation I use the AOL dial-up connection and she comes over here and uses the cable modem because you cannot have 2 people on dial-up @ the same time.
        Cable yes, but dial-up no.
So the answer to your question is NO, home and timeshare cannot both be using dial-up @ the same time.
Now I am talking if you have AOL and Charter.
I don't know what the situation is if you are using AOL's broadband.
As suggested by Big Frank, give them a call.
        Hope this helps.
        Have a good evening.

I have high speed at home but on the road I use a company called MyTravelAccess.

MyTravelAccess - Global ISP for Travellers

MyTravelAccess is a dial-up Internet service that you can use anywhere in the world without a new monthly bill. You will receive unfiltered, unrestricted access to the Internet so you can use all of your regular Internet applications such as Email, Instant Messaging, Chat, and News. MyTravelAccess is a Pay-As-You-Go service. You only pay for the connection time you need. The price is $9.95 for 20 hours of online service.

There are numerous numbers across the country that can be accessed as local phone calls and some 800 numbers. The 20 hours is good for one year and can be added to at anytime. I have used it in several different locations that did not have wireless and have never had a problem with it.

Just another suggestion for when you need to use a dial-up connection.

              David,

Have you had any problems connecting to this service while out of town? Also, have you tried their speed up progam?

I have never had a problem using it, yet. I do use their accelerator. Once you have been to a site, it reloads that information faster than the first time. It still is dialup, but it beats nothing.

I am currently using it now from Napa. We are staying at RiverPointe Napa Valley. The place consists of fully-equipped modular cottages. Nothing like I have ever seen before. They are small, but nice. Good for two, would not like it for anymore than that. Not bad though for $99 a night from ResorTime.com.

Are you in a one bedroom unit? I have seen those on Trading Places and II.

Are you from Green Bay? I worked for a Paper Company and visited Green Bay several times.

Yes we are in a 1 Bedroom. They are very nice inside, but about the size of a single wide trailer. They are on the wheels and I hear can be moved if the Napa River, which runs right along side of the resort, rises.

No, I am not from Green Bay, but I am a Cheesehead. I was born and raised in southern Wisconsin. I now live in Sacramento, about an hour from Napa.
