I picked up an HP/Compaq laptop with the exact same specs (actually, a faster dual core processor) a month ago for $425 (including shipping). We get a discount through our credit union for HP equipment -- I think it was about 15%.

Hp has a 30% discount right now and if you bought it less than a month ago from them you can get a refund on the differance. I ordered mine last week with a 20% discount and today when the new promo came out I got back another $221. Only thing is that the discount is for a custom notebook and the price has to be higher than $999. Code is good until Oct 9 NB3025

That's a pretty darn good deal on the Dell- if you don't make it expensive with all the goodie add-ons.
