  • Vista is better than i thought it would be.

I got my new laptop yesterday, It was a breeze to set up. I downloaded the 41 updates for windows vista and it seems to be working great. I do have 2 megs of ram and 400mb L2 cache with a 2.2 gig duo processor. I had 12 windows open and no problems, it has a few new neat features that i like. 1 is being able to see a small window on the windows at the bottom. Figer scaning is cool and the n network card speads things along.

If you don't have any unusual or older hardware to connect then there is probably no really good reason not to use Vista. On the other hand, if you have older printers, scanners etc you may well find that they aren't supported.
If / when I have to replace my current PC I may need to install XP to support my film scanner.

Most prolly a typo right? Maybe you mixed up those Rams and L2 cache figures.

Anyways my experience with Vista leaves something to be desire. It runs slow on my Acer notebook with 2Ghz core duo processor, 1GB Ram and 160GB HD. My desktop with 1.8GHZ Sempron with 512Ram runs faster on XP.

I've had Vista for about 5 mths now and am fairly happy with it after having XP pro for the last few years.I really liked XP but haven't really missed it, I have to admit.

So far I'm not thrilled with Vista. It is a memory pig. Works great on a brand new PC but I can see it becoming an issue. It runs like an OS for dummies. Too much is built into it for my liking and it is difficult to customize.

Keith raises valid points on compatibility. I wasn't thrilled about buying the new MS Office suite because the old version I had for XP wouldn't work. Luckily my HP all-in-one works. Haven't attempted putting all my music software in yet. I'd like to see what's in here before I do. I have a feeling a new Roxio package is in my future.

I'm still playing with Vista and trying to find things that were "Duh" on the XP platform for me. I have a feeling if things go south that I'm not going to be happy with it at all.

Bought 2 new laptops from Dell refurbished store on line. Mine had XP and DW
had Vista, which she was not happy with at all because of problems using her memory stick that she used to bring home files from her office desktop
After 2 weeks she exchanged it with Dell for XP operating machine
and is very glad she did....

I set up a new PC for a friend last weekend. Installation was a breeze and far quicker than when I did the same with an XP machine. I have to say I don't like the interface from what I have seen of it. As Lawren says, it seems to be designed for dummies and I had all sorts of problems finding stuff that was easily to hand on XP and previous versions.

Looks like MS got it backwards with Vista.

I sorta agree on the interface but once I got used to it and started doing more stuff with function keys I started liking it more.
Also, I have done quite a few setups now and find that part the easiest of the MS OS's so far.\
The other good thing I find is that it is by far the most stable OS that Microsoft has put out yet including XP.
So in all I guess I think it is a step forward.

Just brought a new laptop with vista. Don't have any issue with it. Everything seems to be fine. I didn't install any old software on it. I was going to install old version but it is already pre-load with mircorsoft word, excel and notes. I didn't want to bother with deinstall the new version and load the old verison. I ends up buying the new version online....

Vista is getting better because of all the STUPID beta testers like me that got this shitty software too soon. My home computer which has vista is always downloading new patches and if I walk away and the stupid thing decides it needs to restart it restarts itself without concern about what I was working on...

I swear another operating system executed as poorly as this worthless and frustrating excuse they call an operating system and I swear I will go back to MACs after not owning a Mac in 10+ years.

I had to replace a printer/scanner/fax as the company that made it would not support Vista (not Microsoft's fault but still sucks) and I had to upgrade a lot of software I had been quite happy using. The things I had to replace to allow me to use my new $900 Vista box cost me about $2000 and the costs came one at a time so it always seemed like I needed just "One More" purchase to be able to use the new machine.

Then, Vista is so server and memory intensive that even though I have darned near "Super Computer" power with a ton of memory it is slower then the computer I was using before running XP.

Vista better then you thought it would be... hell, it is the worst excuse for software I have seen since Microsoft ME and I am really darned close to moving to Macintosh after the problems that Vista has cost me.

Can you tell I really love it yet

Ken I got an upgrade last night. All my pages I had up were put back in the upgrade after I logged in. I like many of the features that Vista has and it is far more stable/ Ken try using this as a browser SpaceTimeā„¢
