  • Digital Photo Question

    Hi all,

I have a Canon S2 IS and need to send some pictures to someone. However, when I attach the cable to the computer and download the pictures, each picture is about 1.5 megabytes. I have 45 pictures that need to be sent, and there is no way to send them when they are this big. (My e-mail program says 16 Mb is my file limit.)

Since I hardly ever have to send pictures, I don't normally worry about how big they are, but there must be a better way to do this!

The Canon software that came with the camera doesn't work with Vista, so that's out...but maybe there's a program that makes them not so big? (I'm just using the Dell photo server right now.)

    Thanks for any help!

Have you considered uploading the pictures to a web photo album such as picasaweb.google.com and sending them a link so they can view the pictures online? They also have the option to download the ones they like.

(BTW, picasaweb also has an option to make your pictures private, and only share with those you specify!)

      Sharon,

You need to crop the pictures with a photo program. The best one that I like to use is a program called Riptide by Vortec. It's simple to use. You will need to save the pictures as a .jpg file because that is a smaller file size and it will also look good when you e-mail them. I usually save them in .jpg 400x800 if the recipient wants a bigger file then just e-mail them the original size.

        Thanks guys.

I ended up downloading Picassa which gives the option of changing the megapixel size when sending photos...so easy! The only issue I had was that it wouldn't let me e-mail using AOL...I actually had to open a gmail account and use that to e-mail. (I'm sure there was a way around that, but I was so cooked by the end that I just did it....)

Still having trouble working within Picassa to select certain photos, etc...and also wondering if I can then have those photos made into prints through Picassa?

        Thanks!
