  • America On line & Printer....Not working

American On-line, and my printer just stopped working last night. I have a white box as symbols for them, opposed to their normal icon. Clueless as to why, and not sure what to do.

I re-booted my computer a few times, and that didn't help. If doing that doesn't fix things, I'm lost. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you turn your printer off and then back on?

      No. I'll do that now.

Turned the printer on, and off a few times, and then re-started my computer again. Still not working.

I down loaded a new version of AOL, and that works, but now I can't get onto Internet Explorer. Printer still not working.

            Totally untechnical here but --
I've been told by a tech support person to do a shutdown and let it sit for 5-10 minutes rather than just restart.
I'd also unplug the printer for that time.

And, sometimes the computer just doesn't recognize the printer for some unknown (to me) reason - and you have to do an "add printer" thing, as if it was a new printer, to teach it that the printer is really there.

That's it for my words of 'wisdom'.
            Good luck. Frustrating , yes...

              Angela,

              1. Go into your Printer and Faxes folder and make sure you have the right printer set as your default printer.

              2. Then go to AOL and if there is a printer setup, make sure that the correct printer is selected. When you upgraded/updated, perhaps it switched printers on you.

Thanks, I'll try that. It's not a new printer, but I think somehow I lost all the installations.....Who the heck knows what happened. I've installed another version of the Internet Explorer, but don't know how to re-install my printer. Maybe DH knows. I guess I'll wait for him to come home, and keep my fingers crossed.

My computer is also painfully slow today. I'm giving it lots of love, but it may need a little help from a computer doctor.

OK, I take back that Internet Explorer is working. I installed a new version, and it appeared to be working, but it no longer is.

Did you check to see if there were Gremlin's inside your computer?

Maybe....Nothing seems to be working correctly, if at all. I'm waiting to see if I loose my ability to get on TS4M's.

I re-installed Internet Explorer, yet again, and it just won't work.

OK Angela my machines must be 'talking' to yours -- now I can't send any mail from AOL.....and I"ve done all the shut down restart stuff I know how to do.
Everything else works, just not the mailing feature -
I get a message saying you can only send one email at a time.... it's been this way for 2 hours.
                        Sigh......

I wonder if something is wrong with AOL, and that's what's causing my problems?

OK, now in the middle of typing my reply, I lost my connection to TS4M's, and had to sign back in, and start over again.....Not good!

I hate AOL, my wife uses it on her computer and it is killing it. Down load a fresh copy of aol then uninstall the old one and then install the new one. See if that helps if not then do a system restore from a few days ago.
