I also had called my cousin who did computers, she told me the same thing..get the tool from the website.

I did a web search and sites are saying that it is the best thing that Norton has come up with in a long time. Every site I found states it does a good job of removing it from your computer.

I will put this on my agenda to do tonight

Thanks Frank...you received a better response than I. I'm glad you posted yours. I decided to wait until the weekend to uninstall Norton. This way in case of a hiccup in the process I have the time to devote to it.

I removed it on 2 of the 3 computers so far with out a hitch.

This is just another reason why I hate Norton, It should not be so hard to remove something.

                          Frank -

just for kicks, why don't you open the Registry and see how many keys to Norton/Symantec are still lurking in your system.

From the Start menu, select "Run" and enter "Regedit". Then do Ctl-F and search on "Norton", "NAV". and Symantec, and see how many keys are still in the registry.

                          ****

Important note: Don't edit the registry unless you know what you are doing. My suggestion above is just intended to help you assess how completely NAV has been removed from the system.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

I know Frank's away and I did it what you said..I have 4 files all together when I did the search. Not sure if I should delete them.

                            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Webroot\SpySweeper\Star tup\2_NAV CfgWiz
                            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Webroot\SpySweeper\Star tup\2_NAV CfgWiz

                            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Webroot\SpySweeper\Star tup\2_URLLSTCK.exe

                            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AppID\{E39D1C8 1-7E76-4d84-9F25-E2CC76EC050B}

This is what i found...I am assuming it is safe to delete the above? Yes?

Don't delete them! You shouldn't edit a registry unless you're sure of what you're doing; I don't know for sure those are safe to delete, so I suggest you leave them. Maybe someone else will chime in who knows for sure.

Actually that looks like a pretty clean removal - much better than I got when I removed Norton several years ago. After running the removal tool from the site, I still had about 20 registry entries. It appears that Symantec has greatly improved the removal tool.

                                okay...I will leave them.

The scan removed 34 potential threats, most of which were cookies. But Norton usually only picked up 4 each week.
