attachments to email

wanting to send a newspaper clipping as an attacment to an email;I did the following 1/ scanned the clipping and sent it to myself,it arrived in my inbox
in good condition,used the zoom up tool to read it.
2/scanned again,sent it as an attachment to a my sister in Florida copy to our
brother in Australia. my sister got the email but no attachment,my brother
got the email but only 75% of the clipping,frustrating.
is this common ? or did I goof up?
The clipping stayed in the scanner all the time.

Can't you just forward the email of the clipping that you sent to yourself to your brother and sister or when you scan it, can you save it as a word document or PDF file and attach that to your email?

I hope that someone else will help you here too.
