  • Saving Favorites?

Looks like I will have to give in and get a new computer.
Is there any way to save my favorites so i don't have to start over again?
(this is assuming I ever get online again with the old computer)

    Try this, it works well.

About 4 years ago, I upgraded my computer and with it, bought a device that transfers all my old data into the new one. Similiar to this one. I don't have the name of it right now, but when I get home later this week, I will look for the name.

Maybe someone here has used one and can let you know.

If you have a flash card (under $30 for several gig), simply copy the file from the old computer. Don't open internet. Find the file on the old computer using search from windows explorer, copy the file to the flash card. Insert card into the new computer and copy the files from the card to the new computer overwriting the favorites folder.

With a 2 or 4 gig flash card, you can move a lot of your files quick and easily.

we have the small portable flashdrives and I have copied most files.

I need a little more help on saving the favorites file, on finding it without going on line.

Assume you are speaking ato a dummy, as you are, and please tell me how to find it.

I asume I click on search from the start menu and type in favorites .

I am not on my computer now, so can't try it.
Also, on the library computer, when I click on file, I do not get an imort/export choice. Also no tools button on library computer.

Also, what is best way to copy income tax from Turbo Tax without copying the entire program, just the completed tax forms.

Why do I try to answer computer questions when there are people on this site smarter for answering computer questions?

Okay, now that I feel better:
Just to make me happier, and to make sure we are on the same page, Right click Start. Find Explore. Go to the local disk, or C drive. Highlight the C drive. Right click and select Search. The search window will open. Type favorite in the file name window. It will search for favorite or favorites. Usually one or maybe two will show up. If you have your flash drive installed, right click on the one you you want. You should see 'Send To' When you move the cursor to that line, it should open up to more selections, including your flash drive location. Send the file to your flash drive.

          You're halfway there-more or less.

Do the steps above until you have found the favorites location.
Move the flash to the new computer.
An explore window may open as the computer sees your flash drive. Find the favorites that were copied to your flash, and highlight it. Drag the file to the location where the favorites are already set up. It hopefully will ask if you want to overwrite the file, yes you do. Otherwise, on your flash drive, open the favorites folder and copy the stuff inside it and drag that to the new location favorites folder.

It is hard for me to say exactly which steps to take for which computer. I am at work, using XP professional and it may be different here than how your computer may work.

That is my best belief. I hope it will work for you.

If that doesn't work, let me know.

I know nothing about Vista, if that is what you have now, but maybe we can work through it.

If anyone has other suggestions, please, chime in.

              Another approach:

Join Google Bookmarks and transfer all your favorites into it (an easy one-step process).

When you get your new computer (and likewise any time you're away from home with a laptop or even a public computer) log onto Google Bookmarks and they'll be there for you.

I knew there was a site that would do that. I looked at Yahoo and MSN this morning, couldn't find it...Thanks!
