  • "No Video Input" Message on Monitor

I have a Dell desktop with Vista that is a little over a year old.

My daughter's friend was playing on it earlier...I was not here. Later, I noticed that the monitor was no longer working. I turned it off and one, and got the "no video input" message. I checked all the connections...they are all intact. Turned the computer on and off...it also appears to be working as far as I can tell.

We attached another monitor to the same computer and got the same message, so it's not the monitor. Since the computer appears to be running, I can only assume it has to do with a video driver or card? If so, how do I fix/address this given that I can't see anything?

Thank you for any input!! (No pun intended...lol....)

When ever I see that message that means the computer is off.

If you have not shut down the computer, waited a minute, then turned it back on, do that. If you have the same results, I don't think you can/should do much diagnostics.

Beyond that if the video card is a daughter card, you could (if you have some experience and know what you are doing) unseat the card and then reinstall. However, I think I would take it to the local geeks of your choosing and let them work on it.

Thanks. Brian over at TUG helped me diagnose the problem, which was that the video card had gone kaput. There was a lot of dust inside the console too. I ordered a new card and put the original card back in (the computer is working but we need the new video card for my daughter to be able to play her game).

It's summer time. Make her play outside instead.
