  • MagicJack

Anyone have the MagicJack? I just ordered and recieved mine and it works pretty good. I'm sure if I am keeping it but $20 / yr is pretty inticing.

I would loose my land line number we have had for 11 years but so it might have to be.

It works on my DSL line and is probably just like the other high-speed service all over the TV. The only difference is that I don't pay a fee every month and I don't have to buy new phones.

Let me know what you think if you have it or have done a trial run.

    Thanxxx, Jim

    Majic Jack phone number

Did you receive a local exchange phone number? Can you receive local, land line orriginated calls. What type of internet connection do you have?
I am going to go with a Voip phone and I have been looking at Majic Jack. Any information you can post would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    mack

I use Verizon DSL but am contemplating dropping my local phone service with them and going solely with MagicJack. I would then switch to Verizon fios.

Yes I did get a local phone number but I guess it I can't "port" my existing number as I could with Vonage.

Anyone else using or tested MagicJack?

        Vonage

I have Vonage at both my primary residence and condo in Florida and am very happy with it.

          Returned it this week

I thought I would post and let you know that I returned it this week. I was unable to port my current land line number and I couldn't get rid of the echo on the phone every time I talked. I tried all of the techniques they suggested and I turned it in.

Was worth the try. The price was sure right! $40 /yr. 1 & $20 / yr. thereafter.

Any other VOIP gizmos out there that are this inexpensive?

            I love our Majic Jack

What do you want for 20 bucks a year?

After doing a considerable amount of research I purchased two Magic Jacks for evaluation. (One to replace a dedicated fax line)
I knew ahead of time the product has several short comings.

I was warned of poor customer support, lack of local number portability, and the requirement the computer must be kept running at all times. One inconvenience I did not anticipate was having to dial the area code for local calls.
I did the following to over come some anticipated problems:

I purchased the units from QVC rather then Magic Jack ...Many people reported trouble returning defective units to Magic Jack

I installed each unit on laptop computers ......... a easy way for short term battery back up
I made sure my computers were fast enough for good VoIP reception.....Many people reported call echo and cut outs / in checking they did not have enough computer to do the job.

I switched my T1 to my wireless network.
I ported my fax land line and am presently parking it’s number until I can get a local magic jack number or a Grand Central number.

I connected magic Jack to a wireless phone base.

We love Magic Jack so far. We have been using it for a little over a month now. When we travel we take the Magic Jack (it is about the size of a tic-tac box) It works great in hotel rooms. This product works perfectly. I run one unit on a Mac and one on a Dell. The fax line took a few adjustments on the Windows Vista machine.
This is a close to free phone service as it gets. We have never had anyone complain about voice quality.

In checking out Magic Jack I discovered a few things that make me question if they will make it. I’m not sure if they a re just a company experiencing
Problems due to their tremendous growth or they don’t care about customer service, but if they don’t make it we are already ahead of the game.
