  • Page Kernal Dump error.

Now I know I am having trouble with my hard drive as it has crashed a few times, The last time I was just able to run scan disk in order to get it going again.
Now a new problem, When I sometimes click on something. I get the blue sreen of death. It says if I recall Page_Kernal_error_Dump or something like that. This has happened 2 times in 24 hours and 3 times in the last week. Any ideas?

It just happened again. Both times tonight it was while accessing timesharetalks.uk website. The first time I was trying to view pictures as I was going to upload some. And this time it happened when I just tried to get into the forums.

I got a better look at the error this time and it said

    Kernal_inpage_ Error

I have a feeling it has to do with Paul's website. Tony or Keith, can you PM Paul on his site and ask him to look at this thread in the computer help forum. I am afraid to go there and try again.

[s]Bigfrank, where are the banners as I can't remember the link of the UK timeshare forum?[/s] I was trying to go there.

I found it and I have no problems. It must be your computer.

            Frank,

Your problem is with your hard drive and Windows (possibly failing memory, but 98% failing hard drive).

            Try this -

To enable EnableBigLba in the Windows registry, perform the following steps:

Start a registry editor (e.g., regedit.exe). In Windows, click on Start->Run, enter "regedit".
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\atapi\Parameters registry subkey.
From the Edit menu, select New, DWORD Value.
Enter the name EnableBigLba, then press Enter.
Double-click the new value, set it to 1, then click OK.
            Close the registry editor.
Restart the machine for the change to take effect.

Another possibility, if you're getting that error, is that the disk has a bad sector somewhere in the swap file. Check the Event Viewer (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer). Look in the System log for any error events with a source of 'disk'. If you see any references to a bad block, ensure that the drive is connected properly and the cable isn't damaged. If the connection and cable are good, and cleaning the fans and heatsinks doesn't help, replace the disk. It should last long enough for you to connect it as a secondary drive to recover your data.

Failing the above, send me a list of your machine spec and standard software including anti virus, anti spyware ...etc.

              Frank,
It could be the enable big drive as pointed out by the previous poster, and if so you can do the registry change or look on the drive manufacturers site for a file, many of the vendors have them. I prefer to do the registry change as it is quicker. That being said I would think more a sector problem with hard drive as if it was the big drive support I would think that you would have encountered it prior to this.

Since you mention Registry, Do you think the program registry cleaner will work instead of trying to change the registry myself. I know it can repair errors in the registry.

No frank. A registry cleaner is to clean the registry or fix errors. This is not an error as such, it is an issue / incompatability.

It will have to be done as above, not by any program.

Paul it looks like you were able to extend the life of my lap top hard drive for about 5 months. It has now officially died as it will no longer start up.
You think I would have backed up all my pictures by now. Nope but most are on Snapfish.com. I have my hard drive in the freezer now so we will try to get it going again soon to copy some files. Hopefully it will start up. I am going to try to steal my SIL Lap top as she has the same one as me with a broken LCD screen.
