Have been using Panda for the last two years. Time to renew again. Anything more powerful? Using XP, version 2002, service pac 3. Also am using a Cisco wireless router piggy backed off a FIOS router.

    How about Shield Deluxe?

I love Trend. When you lose everything as I have you definately shop. I also run webroot Spyware. Each daily on both my machines.

For paying costumers IMO I think Panda is the best out there but for free I use AVG and I have not had any trouble with that.

The IT geek at my work has Trend on all the computers. I have it at home. Heck of a lot better than Macafee-Big resource hog.

I run AVG antivirus and Webroot spysweeper for adware. I haven't had an issue.
I used to have norton for my anti-virus, but it took a tremendous amount of memory when it ran. AVG is much better.

Bezerk & Vintner, been using McAfee for over three years now which comes with my Comcast subscription & its not "Big" resource Hog! My credentials - I'm an old retired IT professional but stay-up with current & future expansions of IE, Firefox & software. I'm not saying I would recommend McAfee, just saying it depends on a lot of situations with your puter resources you have or don't have.

Trend use to be very good but its not in my opinion since early this year but ya paying for it & I can't help that. AVG is still one of the best "Free" products out there & there are a couple more if you do some research at Download.com or Cnet forums!

Got it with my comcast too. Very slow to load when you power on the computer, drops the computer speed down. Scans are awful. Local computer repair guys are not in favor of McAfee. When I loaded Trend, it found several things that McAfee let go through.

So, you may have experience as an old retired IT, but in my personal computer experience, McAfee is out and Trend is in, and it works faster.

You and I both know that we can google search McAfee resource hog and come up with a lot of opinions either agreeing with, or disagreeing with that statement. But as I said, since dumping it from my computer, it works faster. Sometimes free costs too much.

Remember, I can't argue with ya but was trying ti make a point with ya. Not disagreeing with ya but my load is quite fast & I have a 2000 Dell puter with only 512meg. I disagree with the repair guys cause they want you to get "this", don't do it cause it will cost ya in the long run, they are in the business! I'm not totally disagreeing with bout Trend, that in the past year it has gone down in respect to what's the best out there. I don't think McAfee is out but everyone to own opinion. When ya pay $ 43 to Comcast, they better have their chit together or they are gonna lose customers besides the over pricing they do & many other things that go with it.

I don't agree with your last statement but to each its own, some day when I have more time, I'll let you know what I have on puter, its all free & never have had any virus, worm, Trojan, etc. on my puter & I have been answering a lot of post on the subject but lots of people don't care nor say thanks, nor do I care! Its their problem ifin they don't want to exercise the options! That's why I usually don't answer these type of posts & I've been a member on here for many, many years as with Tug but that's another story in itself!

Thanks Conch Man... I had McAffee for many years but it just seemed to really slow down our computers, even my son complained and he is well pretty computer savvy. Now I do not have Comcast I have Satellite and in Mexico so who knows. I also had issues with too many things sliding past McAfee, and it is not suggested here in Mexico, so I have cancelled my subscription, just about 6 months ago I guess, maybe less. I seem to be doing okay with AVG Free edition 8 and also Ad-aware. I do find one picks thing up sometimes the other does not and vice versa. Not sure of everything son has on his computer right now and he gets a lot and uses or visit Cnet downloads and forums a lot.

I am not very computer savvy, so hey I am game to hear anyone's advise. We usuallt get pretty good advise from our ISP provider as well, different in Mexico and they do not try to keep pushing the newer and pricier things LOL.

I've did this before but I can do it again but to let you know, I have a lot of "free" software from the Internet, I don't pay for anything & what I have loaded on my puter is all good for the price. You won't get any virus, Trojan's, malware, scumware or parasite infestation, etc. with any of these programs & some of them I have running as start-up which can eat some memory, just depends on what ya have on your puter for processing! Make sure you have the latest versions & update twice a week on some of them, not all.

I have installed on my puter, Microsoft Operating System XP Home - SP3 & use IE most of the time but ifin you use Firefox, ya don't need all the stuff I have stated in my reply!

                          1. McAfee Suite - Comes with my subscription from Comcast - It catches any virus that tries to sneak onto my puter & warns me but you have to set-up the suite, it doesn't just to it automatically but most is.

                          2. Ad-Aware - most of ya's have this on your puter -

                          3. Spybot Search & Destroy - Same as above - Only Tea Timer will be memory resident if you turn this option on -

                          4. Spyware Blaster - Same as Ad-Aware above - a good parasite blocking program -

                          5. Tweak Now Register Cleaner Standard -

                          6. Windows Defender - Memory resident as well -

                          7. CCleaner - best software out there but be very careful what you "Erase" or fix!

                          8. Aus Logics Disk Defrag - Usually defrags your disk in 2 minutes & better than Microsoft's defrag -

                          9. Aus Logics Register Defrag - Great piece of software -

                          10. Glary Utilities - Be careful, this software is powerful but does the job you need to do -

                          11. Advance Windows Care V2 Personal -

                          12. Revo Uninstaller - Be careful again -

                          13. Trend Micro Hijack This - Checks you puter for problems as all the above software does -

All the above software is free & you need to work with it to become familiar with & what it does - Check Cnet for information cause that's where I mostly get this stuff or PC Magazine & ifin you are a member, it will automatically let you know when there is an update when you have loaded any of their software from their website & remember "there is no such thing as perfect protection" - good luck!

Wow, conch man...thanks I appreciate your time...

You certainly have a lot of stuff on there....some of the ones you mention I used to use...but a computer guy told me I had too much stuff on there and that was not good......so guess everyone has differing opinion on this issue....

Who knows what to do....I am aware nothing is perfect in catching everything...but I printed your list and am going to check them all out and then decide what to do, install etc...

Once again....THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND sharing what you use.....

Have a great week...and Happy Vacations!!

Your welcome & glad I could help ya out! I use all the software I recommended to you on my list, don't know why that puter guy told you that unless it was other software not on my list, which makes since. Not all of my programs are running at the same time others are, they are just programs to help ya "check" your status for those things that aren't suppose to be there!

Forgot one program that I'm messing with but the software is great & as usual its free, don't see any problems with it.

Smart Defrag - Defrags your hard disk or any disk for that matter & you can optimize!
