  • Received this e-mail from my local police dept today about Adobe

A technology security alert has been issued to users (almost everyone) of Adobe Reader and Acrobat 8.1.2 and earlier versions. These vulnerabilities would cause the application to crash and could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. I encourage anyone who uses these versions to upgrade to the latest free version of Adobe Reader at Adobe . Please note that adding the new version does not remove the older version. You will need to go into Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the older version(s). For further information please visit Adobe - Security Advisories : APSB08-19 - Security Update available for Adobe Reader 8 and Acrobat 8

Yes, I do. it also included the town's events. My town has an e-mail sign-up and we receive notification of things that are going on in town as well as leaf pickup, snow removal, etc.

This e-mail included both - so yes, it was real

I upgraded to the newest verison of Adobe Reader 2 days ago. It DID remove the older version completely. I received a notice from Adobe via e-mail to update it.

Did they (the police) have anything to say about the spiders?

              alert

JLB... very cute.... The police did not say anything about the spiders LOL

BUT their system of e-mail alerts is great...
Any resident can sign up to automatically be notified of anything of interest or importance that is going on

Believe it or not, this summer a local resident lost his pet TURTLE.. the police were notified - an e-mail was sent to residents and a week later, the turtle was found and returned to the owner!

Now we don't often get e-mails like that but there was a robbery in town and there were surveilance cameras. The police e-mailed the video and the robber was caught!

It's a great program... they even told us last Memorial Day that road checks were being set up AND where - so that local residents could avoid traffic!

You know, I doubt the police or city hall has my current phone number or email address. I suppose I should update them, but then again, I'll go in and they won't know how to handle it anyway.

LOL... the 6,447 restaurants are within 15 miles so that includes New York City....

In town we have 3 pizza parlors, 2 Chinese restaurants, a Mexican restaurant, an Italian restaurant, 1 bakery, 1 bagel store, a Dunkin Donuts and a luncheonette
That's a little more in proportion

Judy, our city does that too. We get emails from city hall, police and fire depts. I don't live in a small town either it's the 3rd largest city in MI.

Your anti-virus software should have caught those. The update from Adobe is really a replacement as itr uninstalls your previous version. At least it did when I installed the new version. I watched the installation and saw the old one being removed and there are no traces of the old one on my system.

If you are concerned about your old version not being completely removed then you can uninstall it first and then install the new one.
