  • Browser Memory Question

I believe one of the reasons I am able to limp along fairly well with my ole WIN1898 and IEBeforeRecordedHistory.1, is because I try to keep the clutter down (unlike my Mom's house, which had walking paths inside ).

Fairly frequently I clear cookies and TIF and History, then I defrag. (sorta like picking up and putting things in place)

I have noticed that that does not always clear everything from the IE history. It seems like there are sometimes addresses that stay stored there. They are not ones in my Favorites or stored intentionally anywhere that I know of.

I have looked at IE and don't see any way to clear them. Is there?

    OK, here's an example:

When I type www.b into the address line, the dropdown shows one address:

    http://www.branson2for1tickets.com

I have many addresses starting with www.b stored in Favorites, and I have not been to that address recently . . . I have cleared History many times since I was last there.

So, why is that, and only that, address showing up when I type www.b?

And how can I eliminate it, and others that I discover doing that?

Upgrade to a Vista computer, In IE options you can remove the old or stop it from storing from the get go.

Click on the down arrow button where your "http://" stuff is, where ya log on to a website, that "white bar" ifin you know what I'm talking bout not your favorites all tho you could do that

once you click on the down arrow you'll see a bunch of the URL stuff you are talking bout

take your mouse over any of the URL's, push the delete button on your key pad & guess what, its gone!

I do it all the time to get rid of the stuff, the stuff you are talking bout needs to be done all the time you are on-line to keep your puter running good!

          Conch:

I had already tried that. When I put the cursor on the address I want to delete, it highlights. I don't have to drag it to highlight it.

When I push the delete button nothing happens. If I right-click the mouse, nothing happens . . . I don't get the menu where I could delete.

I'm wondering, if I went into My Computer/Programs/IE, will those addresses show up there somewhere?

I moved an unwanted address into the browser address line, and I could delete it there, while at the same time deleting it from History.

But when I click the dropdown in the browser address box, it is still there.

Then I opened IE Properties and cleared all History, and it was gone from the drop down.

I cleared the address line and put in www.b, and there it still is in the dropdown . . . http://www.branson2for1tickets.com.

Also, if I type just a single letter into the address line, there is a list of stuff. It is all stuff I recognize, that I have been to one time or another, but what determines if something shows up doing that?

              Favorites?

I don't use IE, so I am only guessing...but is there something in the OPTIONS menu (maybe called PREFERENCES) that says "auto complete?" If there is, then all you'd have to do is uncheck it. Don't know if it will clear up the past things, but without auto complete on you won't get any more.

Why the worry? Has somebody been viewing porn on your computer?

Anyway, hope this helps. Its my best guess. If it doesn't work, try Googling MSIE + auto complete

Try Firefox. I have not used IE in years. Too insecure and "buggy".

                  Cheers

                    Yeah . . . Branson porn. 2for1, like I showed.

That's a joke, but not long ago a prostitution ring was busted here. Some of those meetings were probably pretty hilarious. "Why did I call you again? . . . To do what? . . . Could you speak a little louder please? . . . Can you find my glasses? . . .)

Here is an explanation of what I am talking about, the section under Browser Address Bar:

How do I delete history items from my Google tool bar? - Ask Leo!

To see for yourself, put just letter in your address bar, like A or B or C, and see what AutoForm or AutoFill shows on the dropdown menu.

Some of the items are not things that oughta be there, like google searches or web addresses that I don't have stored in Favorites.

None of the methods to delete them has worked.
