We are looking to get one of the new Mini-Computers for traveling. Also, looking to get a separate, CD & DVD read/write Drive for home. Is there a good software package that we can get to rip movies off the DVDs so that we can watch them on the plane without having to lug along the Drive?

Not sure how your eyes are but those small computers look cute and are handy but I am not sure about looking at those tiny monitors. as far as ripping software goes DVD Shrink and DVD Clone are very popular.

My wife started out wanting a iPod Touch and I talked her in to considering one of those small mini-computers.

Will DVD Shrink and DVD Clone copy DVDs to the hard drive?

Yes, you can leave it on the hard drive as a ripped file. DVD Shink actually just compresses the file so that it will fit on a standard 720K dvd. The commercial dvd's are about 820K or so and the ripped file won't fit on a standard dvd. DVD shrink uses a compression algorithyn that finds scenes with like backgrounds and compresses them in to just the motion. It dergrades the picture but not enough that you can really notice. Anyway to watch the movie on the PC you don't have to shrink it.

Having traveled with a Palm and then a 15.4" laptop, the next travel computer will be 17" or larger.

When I bought DW's Dell LT a year ago, Tony encouraged me to go Big little, like he is now. I did and we are glad.

We took it on our Florida trip, and it fit neatly in my going to Des Moines to take care of crap case. Airline regulations allow a carry-on, a LT and case, and a purse (woman or man-purse). The LT was the under the seat in front of me carry-on, and the case was never too big or in the way any time.

I was amazed at how much I could use it, how much wi-fi there is, and I used it every day.

The couple that goes with us takes a mini-LT, which I have used in the past, and I hate it.
