DW does not log off on her laptop. She just closes it up and sets it down, plugged in. She is on secured wireless.
Is there any danger in doing that?

Is your concern someone getting into the drive and access information?
Really shouldn't be if your computer goes into hibernate or some other form of shutdown. Drive shouldn't work, network is secured.
I do the same cover closing on my laptop and don't have a secure network because I haven't figured out how to make it secure. I haven't had problems with that.
Do you have wireless . . . and if you do when you set it up did it not give you a key, a code you enter into any computer in order to access the wireless?

I have it hardwired to 2 desktops and wireless to 2 laptops. I set it up about 3 years ago. I can't remember yesterday and you want me to remember what happened when I set up a router 3 years ago?

Umm... you should know if your wireless environment has been set up with security (WEP, WPA, WPA2) or not. If you don't, you really should get a professional in and check it out.

I can't remember yesterday, but I can tell you what happened every day three years ago, or look it up.
I agree that you should be able to tell if it is secured, or can be. That shouldn't take memory, yours or your computers'.

Oh, I notice the problem now . . . from Minnesota. Give things a few months to thaw out.

You can check the status of security on your wireless setup by signing on to your router as administrator and checking in the wireless setting to see if you are using WEP or what coding for security. If you aren't, it is pretty easy to change. Drop another post with your router make/model if you need help getting in to the admin account on it.

Another question. DW has a few girlfriends whose primary source of entertainment appears to be forwarding that assortment of funny emails that are always going around, with clips. DW just opens them all and lets them do their thing. Like 20 a day of those.
Then her PC has serious problems and has to recover a couple times a week. The other day it was locked up completely and the only way I could resolve it was to disconnect and reconnect the battery.
Is opening forwarded emails with questionable heritage an issue she should be concerned about?
If so, how do you tell your better friends to stop without being a turd?
If not, never mind.
