Good luck Frank. I couldn't last that long!
I told them I needed it for my Business so they are putting a rush on it. May be closer to 3 weeks.

So what was the problem? With that cost, guess it was more than the hard drive.

Well they are not 100% sure if it is 1 hard drive or both I do have duel hard drives and there might be a problem with the OP system recovery disc which I bought from them.

              Frank,

I bought a new laptop at Best Buy for $650. I think you may be better of just buying a new one.

Not even close, I just priced my lap top and for $1400 you still do not get what I have in mine, I have an $1800 lap top that I paid $1400 for with tax and shipping. I used a coupon code that saved me over $600. I need to do a search on this site for when I bought it.

I was at GM RM 4 weeks in January, so I unplugged all the TVs and PC. When I returned, the PC wouldn't power on. Took it to a local shop, and needs a new motherboard for $450. I thought about just buying a new one but then I wouldn't have my Excel files, photos, etc. I should have it back next week.

Well I powered it up and when I went online it crashed. I did a few updates and here I am. There is a ton of programs I need to download again.

When the mother board goes out, the hard drive with your files should still be good. The shop you took it too should have been able to pull the hard drive, and using their computer set up, create a back up of the hard drive for you. It may cost $100-200, but you would have everything. Then you can buy a new computer, install all your files from that back up and been in better than new shape.

They quoted $120 to created the back up. The PC is only 3 years old, so I opted for the new motherboard.

Ditto. I got my dell refurbished CHEAP. Good quality too.

Remember, BACK YOUR DATA UP. Seriously. I can't tell you how many times I try and help people fix their computers only to find out that their drive is dead and that was the only location they had their data.

Dont' be like them. Back up your important data. Otherwise your computer WILL inevitably die, and you may not be able to get that info back.
