  • Computer guru's advise on new desktop

HI, I am thinking of getting a new desktop. I am in Mexico so thus my options for an English computer are quite different than most. I can do Spanish but in computer lingo...rather not...so my easiest and best option is Dell.....I can order an English Dell computer here and it would ship directly to my home.

I am looking at a Dell 540s Studio slim or Dells XPS Studio......but I am a tad confused on what I should buy......

I spend a lot of time on computer....no that I know anything....but I am on internet a lot, tons of emails, lot of photo storage, some uploading of photos, sometimes download songs, am thinking of learning how to download movies.....

When I go on Dell site in mx. you can configure the computer...any suggestions on what I really should have.......I know I am kind vague but I have no clue what I am doing...for example minimum memory, Intel core 2 duo or quad etc...

any input would really be appreciated.....Thanks in advance...

I would think that either of those boxes would serve your purposes.
The one general piece of advise I always give forks is to buy a bit more of a computer than you think you need as for storage capacity and other features.
If you are like most people you will keep this computer for a few years and the box you buy today that suits all your needs will seem less powerful by comparison in a year or two. Also, software that you want to use and tasks that you wqnt to do will change over time and generally speaking the requirements of these tasks and software never gets smaller. Also, look over the monitor choices for the model you choose and possible upgrade that also. Remember the monitor is how you view the computer and you will spend a lot of time looking at whatever you get.
That being said you don't have to go out and get the top of the line either. Just look for something that will suit your needs and then maybe up the hard disk size and maybe the memory and look at the monitor choices closely.

Make sure you check out Dell's Small Business division. Anybody can buy from it. My last 5 Dell's have all come from the Small Business Division. I strongly recommend Dell. You should check prices out daily as they can often change by a few hundred dollars with free upgrades etc. One big advantage to buying from the Small Business Division is you can get XP Pro installed as an option. You will still get the CD and license for Vista but the computer will have XP Pro SP3 installed and you will get the CD for it.

I just checked out the Dell Mexican site and yes, it is an option. Below is a link to the Mexican Dell Small Business Division for desktops. They do offer XP Pro as an option.
