  • Vista and Dell

Vista and Dell.....they suck. I spent an entire day with a computer consultant friend and over 3 hours on the phone with Dell just to get my new Dell computer with Vista to connect to the internet and to set up dual monitors. I almost returned the entire heap to Costco.

My last Dell was Windows XP and my triple monitors worked out of box plug and play. Vista sucks.

I have a Dell, Vista loaded on it, and have dual monitors. I didn't have any problem. However, I may not have it running as clean as it should or cheaped out on the graphics card.

I bought a new HP laptop over the weekend, also running vista. I hooked it up to my projector and had "Big Wall Movie Night". It worked really slick. The laptop setup questioned how I want to use the projector, dual monitor as extension, use as the main monitor and turn off the other monitor or two monitors with the same info on both monitors. I set it up as the main monitor and shut off the other monitor. First movie was on a DVD. The laptop comes with a remote, so I didn't need to get up to pause the movie. Second movie was a download from netflix and worked out great too.

With the laptop purchase, I get a free upgrade to 7. I have been told that 7 is basically a fine tuned, less memory requirements fix Vista, not much difference between the two as far as normal operation. But then, I haven't seen any professional reviews yet, so it could have other changes that no one has told me.

You should have purchased your Dell computer from the Dell Small Business division. Then you could have had XP Professional installed. I bought 2 Dell computers a few months ago with XP Professional. It is an option where they pre-install XP but you will also get the license and CD for Vista if you want to change it later. Anybody can buy from the Dell Small Business division.

The new 7 professional will allow you to run XP programs. For that reason, I have thought about getting that version to use some of my old software that can not be upgraded to Vista. I realize it is not XP, but at least I can run the programs.
