Columbus Day is today, Monday. It expands to cover the weekend?? Holy crap, what a dream! I've never had Col Day, let alone the weekend treated as a holiday. (I realize that hols are different for govt employees)

Honestly, tho, if I got called on a weekend and asked why I wasn't there, that's easy: it's my day off. Do all you can thru phone support and only if true emergency, come in, but I would never come in for something I could do remotely. Geeks deserve downtime, too. Being on-call is a big fat drag.

It's funny how the whole department has the day off.
Now that's government efficiency at work for you.

Even the cruise lines and timeshare companies have after hours IT employees but maybe it's just an IT culture thing in the public sector.
Never work a weekend, holiday or night shift.
Must be nice if you can get away with it.

I think it's time for me to change careers.
I've obviously made a huge mistake in pursuing health care.
If I had chosen better then I too would have a life with no worries.
