I usually take a few rods with me to Cabo just to kill some time surf fishing. I catch more fish on the Pacific side from shore than I do in Medano Bay from shore.
On the Pacific side I like to cast big metal lures like 4 ounce Rangers or kastmasters. The trick is to be able to cast about 30 - 50 yards past the wave on the Pacific side. This is one huge killer wave so the need to be careful is real. The lure shouldn't be retrieved so that its skipping but it shouldn't ever be dragging either. I had to switch to a spinning reel as I was backlashing my baitcaster about every 5th cast. The usual catches are snook which in Mexico are called robolo and king mackerel which are called sierra. Occasionally I have seen people catch skip jacks off this shore line.
In Medano Bay you can use smaller lures like a 2 or 3 ounce size. All I have ever seen caught in the area between El Arco and the marina are perch and mackerel. I was told that this area is closed off to fishing but because I saw many people fishing here I gave it a hours worth of casts. Because of all the sea lions and seals near El Arco I doubt that too many larger type fish forage here.
From the marina to the end of the bay there are many resorts and beach activity until you get to turtle beach. We have night fished in front of the Villa del Palmar for shits and giggles. We bottom fish using shrimp or squid. The catch is usually small what ever is swimming by fish but a couple of times we caught rays. Not huge rays but very battle worthy rays about the size of a garbage can lid. You pop them off the bottom and they dive back down into the sand. Its entertaining.
