Unexpectedly, Walmart has shut down 6 or 7 stores claiming these stores have plumbing problems. The closure is expected to last 6 months. Is something happening that will drive the stock down ?

In Canada, Walmart shut down a store because that store unionized.

Then there is the raises for Walmart employees. No job, no raise.

Walmart did say they would shut down if forced to pay more in 2013.

It's funny, by demanding the higher pay workers admit that they aren't actually worth more, because if they were they would have gone that route long time ago instead.

Socialism, US is the new USSR.

I read that the Walton family has decided to donate stock. WMT is still in the zone. Im just having a problem believing the plumbing issue story to close these stores for 6 months. That is not the Walmart business model, imo. Something seems fishy.

          http://www.wsj.com/articles/walton-f...res-1428705644

To facilitate the share sales, the family has established the Walton Family Holdings Trust, to which it is distributing approximately 6% of Wal-Mart’s shares outstanding.

Based on the company’s share count, the distribution translates to about 193 million shares, valued at about $15.6 billion based on Friday’s closing price of $80.65 a share. The sales may take place over “a period of years,” and there is no set timetable for the transactions, the family said.

I haven't kept up with WMT stock or chart for a while as I haven't traded them in a long time.
Maybe it is time to short them. They sure are not going anywhere stock value wise.

I wouldn't worry about WMT. As long as they keep increasing their dividend and building stores.

It has been reported that some of these Walmart stores were involved with the black Friday protests. It looks like the stores that were pushing for union and higher wages are the stores that have closed. Walmart's profit margin is low that giving working wages cuts into the margin.

These closures are not just Walmart. The retailers in the USA are planning to close more than 5000 stores this year.
