I hear that the radiation from Fukushima has now spread across to our west coast and the latest tests have shown 18 of 18 bluefin Tuna affected.

Baby blue took 15 minutes. Regarding tuna, it kind of depends on the age and migration patterns. When the radiation plume was a bit concentrated, the tuna that migrated into the plume received the highest concentrations of celsium. This minimum sized fish would be about 4-5 years old and close to 5 - 6 ft long. Anything larger than 4ft could be damaged goods. The real problem with tuna are pcb's and mercury concentrations.

I like 30 pounders as far as tuna goes.

And you are smoking it? Is that the 'normal' thing to do? I was looking at a couple tuna steaks last visit to the store, little time on the grill just sounds good. I am not sure what to picture with smoked tuna.

Anyway, looks like a fun time pulling that in and enjoy the smoked meat.

I do not like the taste of marlin. In Hawaii, the boat has the rights to the catch, and absurdly, often times, they keep anything they can sell. With tuna and dorado the captain may give or sell you a small portion but this is not required.

In Mexico you can tell the captain to let it go. You get to keep all your dorado, tuna, grouper and up to one marlin. We will be targeting dorado and roosters out of Punta Mita in about a week.
