I have had my uncle stay at the Marriott Marque for under $200 a night when they run specials.

I wonder how long a terrible place to own can remain a fantastic place to stay...

I went to a show on W. 44th st. the other night and it was so crowded around there we could barely move on the sidewalk. I would choose The Manhattan Club over the Marriott anytime if it was available, unless (or until) it becomes less than a great place to stay...

Frank....That Gurney's week is very tempting, but what the others have said about July 4th week is so true. I have been out there that particular week many times in the past, and can't deal with it at this point. It's just madness. Too crowded to do anything, easily anyway.

Personally, my pick would be the last week in June, or last 2 weeks in August.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Getting out there I would leave very late night or super early in the morning. What scares me is the Monte family trying to oust the owners.

Right. Or sticking the t/s owners with god knows what in terms of expenses/liabilities.

HGVC West 57th Street timeshare. It is pretty new and 1 block from the MC. We stayed at the MC on an exchange in July 2008 and were not impressed at all. The furniture was not good at all and one of the elevators had not been working for a long time. You can stay in a suite at just about any luxury 4* hotel in Manhattan for less than the M/F at MC. You can also rent a week at MC for less than the M/F.

We will be staying at the HGVC West 57th Street timeshare on an exchange in a couple months.

Yup, that too.....It's a shame, but I'm too skeptical at this point to be comfortable buying into Gurney's. I haven't kept up with what's going on, but I have a strong feeling that for a while now, things have been going down hill for owners. My guess is it will only get worse.......

I agree that some of the furniture at the Manhattan Club is in need of replacement - those sofas are pretty funky, and I don't mean good funky.... the elevators have been repaired and updated since your last stay and were running very smoothly last time I was there. And it's hard to beat that second full bath in the one bedroom unit.

I would NOT, however, take on those MFs to own there.

It will be a fantastic place to stay as long as the developer continues to sell units to new owners. Then, when owners default, they can just sell them to new owners to cover the maintenance fees.

Stayed in a studio at the MC last week. Got an exchange through SFX on one of their deposit promotions - they resurrected a 2005 week which had expired when I made a new deposit. So even though I had paid a MF on the 'once upon a time' expired week, as far as I was concerned that was in another life and I was only paying the exchange fee for a week in NYC. We rarely had to wait for the elevators. One issue was black mold on the ceiling directly above the bathroom sink. They did come up and scrape off the paper face of the drywall although the leak above should be fixed and the drywall completely replaced. I agree that they should at least have toasters. A bit too hot in August for my tastes. I'm happy to keep going back to the MC for under 200 bucks!
