I used to only feed Science Diet to my cats but my vet recommended Purina One a few years back and so far I have had no issues with it.

One bad case of Feline Cystitis and you become very aware of what you feed your cats. So yes, my vet recommending Purina One was a big factor. Saving money is always good unless it's pennywise and pound foolish.
