I have a lot of the animated Disney films on VHS. I just can't seem to throw them into the trash. If anyone is interested, let me know.

I heard of a friend with the same issue..
He (allegedly) picked up a VHS to digital converter for around $25 on Woot that allowed him to transfer the videos to disks.. The quality isn't nearly what he was used to for DVDs, but they work fine for his 5 yr old princess!
He had about 75 VHS cassettes from his 15 yr old- so replacing them all would have been a real money burner. He had even (allegedly) purchased a Japanese version of Song of the South (the Japanese subtitles run across the bottom of the screen) cuz he couldn't find a copy released in the US. Even if he wanted to- buying all the films on DVD would not have been possible- so this seemed like a way to preserve the magic of Disney!
Warning- this post is entirely satirical and for recreation purposes only so any resemblance to actual persons or actions is entirely coincidental!
If the mouse will sue a Daycare center for an unauthorized character image- you should always give him a moving target!my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

As I understand it (caveat: not a lawyer) converting from one format to another for personal use is generally allowed under fair use. You can't then sell the originals and keep the copies, and you can't make the copies to allow you/family members to watch the same film at the same time in two places. But, for archival purposes, kosher.
