  • Free - No Strings - Jan 5-12 Mayan Palace, Riviera Maya

    Sat, January 5, 2008 thru Saturday, January 12, 2008 1 bedroom slppes 4

There is no cost, the Guest Certificate is in place only a name change needs to be done.

This is a week I bought to donate to the non-profit group that I do a lot of volunteer work for and to use in fund raising. The fund raiser was an auction and due to the item not being well promoted they reseived no bids. Now, I have paid for EVERYTHING associated with the unit; it is NOT all-inclusive, so should be a good deal for someone if they can go.

I kept hoping the center would do something with the week; have a raffle, or something, but they seem uninterested and have not gotten around to doing anything.

So, if there is someone out there that can use this it is my gift to a fellow member. If you want this unit, please contact me via OM - first contact gets the week, no strings attached. Since time is a little short (airfare, name change, etc.) please contact ASAP if this will work for you. I can get the Guest Certificate to you by email, or fax.

I will be away from Deccember 8-15; so, as you see thime is important.

    Joy

Welcome new member, I don't think Joy was offering airfare, maybe you should ask Big Frank.

It really doesn't matter since I have already given the unit to a know member.

                  Unbelievable ,

What an incredibly generous gift, so sorry to hear it wasn't appreciated.

                    Carol,
I should have known better as they did something similar to me earlier. I had a week in Scotland for August 18-25, 2007 a nice 2 bedroom at Dalfaber. They never did a thing with it and it nearly fell by the wayside. I managed to give it away to someone living in Scotland via either this board or OY. And there was the President's Week I got them again in Scotland that they did manage to auction off for a whole big $500....NEVER AGAIN! I have enough problems keeping my own exchanges straight without worrying about ones I have gifted to charity for fund raising.

Speaking of keeping my own straight, I may have a week in Greece coming up in March (I forgot I had it) that we can't use...since we are going in September DH says "what are you crazy, go in March too!" Sometimes that man is no fun at all

Try to give away a piece of cake and someone wants the whole cake. Unreal

That was a great gift, don't let them get under your skin.

                      Thanks for everything.

Joy, once again a great offer, for a lucky someone .

Too bad you have difficulties gifting (and ' regifting')
I actually found the guy asking about airfare to be funny. I mean, c'mon...
And how some unknown someone manages to find the offer, well that surprised me too.

Well, what bothered me was not that he found it but that he had the nerve to post here without having a "track record." When we "gift" a week to someone we as the gifter are still responsible if that someone trashes the place. All the gift certificate does is allow check in by the gifted, it does not transfer responsibility to them.

Yes, the included airfare was funny, but read his posts...he does not a good command of English (not that mine is awlays perfect). I was expecting to see that he would mail me a cashier check for twice what the air would cost and for me to send him a refund of the difference

My experiences with donating to charity auctions have not been great either.

Some charities and winners seem to think that the donator is getting some benefit. There are no tax deductions for donating the use of a unit.

Last year, I donated to one of my sister's interests, the winner (at the minimum bid I stipulated of $700) then wanted a bigger unit later in the game. I booked him the bigger unit and charged my price difference between the two units. Problem was, I couldn't cancel his original unit and never got it re-rented. Result, basically I donated twice.

Same charity this year, sister asked me to do it again. She's been nice to me lately, so I did. Winner, I don't know at what price, probably the same; didn't use the email specified and kept trying to call me; leaving me messages like "Why are you wasting my time." Well, I've been on vacation!!! She didn't want the summer weeks she wanted next week, well I got it for her and it cost me "nothing." So, I guess that was good.

Now for my charities, a local baseball associated one; I donated a week in Scottsdale for Spring training last year and a summer Williamsburg week. The Spring training sold at live auction and the Williamsburg week was picked up in the leftovers. Everything went OK; and I did the same for this year with the same results, Spring Training went in live auction and the Williamsburg week is 'waiting.'

Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't just donate some cash which I can deduct.

The Royal Mayan is in Cancun, not the Riviera Maya which is about 35 miles south. We stayed at the Royal Mayan a couple of years ago. The Grand Mayan is in the Riviera Maya.
