I used a different free service and they have advertising, charge to text it to you, and charge for a direct connection. Plus then they text spam you a couple times. I will not use them again.

I've used Google's 411 service several times. It is free and I don't have to try to find a phone book when we are traveling.

This isn't the only free directory assistance number out there, in fact, it doesn't even have the most listings: it only has business, whereas 1-800-FREE411 has business, gov't, and residential listings.

I'm not sure what other free d.a. number you tried, but 1-800-FREE411 will text the information to callers for free, and will not send unwanted texts to callers. For more info on our policies, see our FAQ page: http://www.free411.com/about/faq

Lastly, 1-800-FREE411 gives callers the option of receiving Mapquest driving directions via text message, which is pretty helpful for those of us who don't have smartphones.
