  • Leftovers?

the next best thing to Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings is the day after Thanksgiving leftovers!

There is nothing that beats the smell of the turkey soup simmering on the back burner all day or the turkey ala king we had for dinner, That was the elected choice of the 3 offered. The other 2 were turkey Tetrazini or turkey and shrimp pesto pasta ( using some leftover appetizer fixings ).

What do you make with your leftovers?

No leftovers this year- had dinner at a friend's. Hot turkey sandwiches are common usually, with a casserole and soup as well.

Combine your leftover turkey with the left over veggies. Mix in a can of cream of whatever soup. Add a little milk. Serve over noodles or rice. Maybe even mashed potatoes.

My favorite, however is to repeat Thanksgiving dinner until we use up all the stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey and whatever. Then I get creative with whatever is still remaining.

I love making turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce sandwiches, with a little mayo........yum.
Other than that sometimes I will make turkey pot pie, turkey soup, turkey salad or anything else with turkey

Our two sons were both home for TG this year. We went out last nite but will have leftover turkey, stuffing, potoes and candied sweet pot. tonite.
My favorite tho is turkey sandwiches. When I was a kid my father always wanted to eat about 1:00 or 2:00 on Thanksgiving just so he was ready for turkey sandwiches about 7:00 or 8:00 that evening!! lol I guess I take after him as that is kind of my favorite part also!! lol

Mine too. Since my dil does Thanksgiving now, I don't get to enjoy the leftovers any more.

We just reheated everything last night and had a 2nd pig out feast.

Why turn it into something else? It was great the way it was except I gained 5 pounds this week.

I think you have your priorities wrong. I actually prefer the leftovers more than the original dinner. Usually the next day is a turkey sandwich with coleslaw and swiss cheese on it (using slices of the leftover homemade bread). The following day is hot, open-faced turkey sandwiches (using the bread again and gravy). Then turkey croquettes (turkey, bread crumbs, onion, parsley and an egg, then saute in a pan). In between is snacking or mealtime using other leftovers. This year, someone brought a bunch of meatballs and left them, so I had a meatball sandwich with provolone on an italian roll. Love drinking the leftover punch over the weekend, and munching on reheated spinach casserole, green bean casserole, stuffing with gravy and having the left over desserts (bread pudding, chocolate trifle - I gave away the pumpkin and pecan pies by request) for breakfast with coffee.

Young was hooked on putting turkey and homemade cranberry sauce on the bread, then grilling in a pan. She ate that three days in a row.

I don't host T-Giving since I host Christmas and have always done turkey. Turkey dinner Christmas eve, and then Christmas day we spend on the turkey soup...

The cranberry hot sauce that comes with this is awesome -- but a bit spicy if you eat the soup same day it's prepared. The flavors blend beautifully overnight.
