  • Costco or BJ's?

It looks like I am going to need to renew my membership at one of these. It is highly unlikely I will continue after the holidays, but it seems it would pay for me to join now to cover my holiday entertaining stuff...

So, which do you think would be better for good cocktail party/xmas dinner stuff, holiday paper goods, etc...?

I've belonged to both in the past, but haven't been in years. I don't like the crowds and don't have much storage space for bulk purchases. Last time I joined Costco it was to buy a specific tv. I never went back.

I belong to both. Each carries different products that I prefer. I think both have guest memberships. Go to their websites and see if you can download a certificate for a 1 day membership.

We belong to BJ's cause it is very near by. I would take what ever is closer. BTW another option is Restaurant depot. I belive there are a few in LI :: Welcome to Restaurant Depot ::

Whichever you pass by the most often. We were Costco members for years and years, before BJs was in the area. After a while I realized I was up by Costco once a month but passed by BJs 3xweek and it was less congested.

I do miss the heck out of Costco's spinach salad though. BJs fresh veggies and fruits, at least by me, aren't as good.

Costco. In addition to having excellent quality products, they have good labor practices, too.

Restaurant Depot is good for some things, but as far as I know you need to have some relationship with a restaurant. I go with a friend of mine who's a caterer. They seem to take the business thing seriously.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Costco, and they have the most liberal return policy.

They are pretty much the same distance. I seem to remember Costco wouldn't give me a guest pass because I had been a member a number of years prior. BJs used to send me "two week" memberships, but it's been a while.

The BJs guest pass I found online says that the "non member 15% surcharge will be deducted from your membership fee if you join..." hmmph

I guess I'll just join Costco. Costco is generally more crowded and is more of a parking headache, but I guess there's a reason. And that's where Hoc said the yummy beef appetizers came from, which is what got me started on this to begin with...

Costco is restrictive on their credit cards. There are certain logos on the card that they take and others (usually the ones I carry) that they don't take. I know they take Amex and Wells Fargo, but not US Bank.

I have been with Sam's Club for years. They are not the best for location, but that is all I can get now, until I change my logo on my credit card to make it acceptable to Costco.

As far as I know, Costco takes only Amex. We have our Amex through Costco, so the Amex is the Costco membership card. It gives 1 or 2 percent back on purchases made at Costco.

If you want to use a credit card at Costco it has to be Amex. They will take a visa or master debit card though. A way to bypass the Amex thing is to buy Amex gift cards with your regular credit card. Then you can get whatever points/ cash back you usually get for your purchases.

If you have a friend who is a Costco member you can have them purchase a Costco cash card for you. You can shop with this like a member with no up charge or commitment. They can add money online as needed.

We saw a Costco display at the last Home show. They were signing people up for membership. I have mastcard CC, visa Debit card and Discover card. I was told they do not take any of them. I did get the list of cards they accept. They are:
                            Credit cards-Amex and Costco.
Debit/ATM Cards with the following logo(s) on the back-Star, Interlink, Wells Fargo, Jeanie, Maestro, Pulse Pay, Alaska Option, Shazam, Isle Pay, Nyce and AFFN. There was one more on their list, but I can't read the logo to tell what it is.

If I can get US Bank to give me a card with one of those logos, I can use that debit card at Costco.
