  • Timeshare boy's first hotel stay on his own

DS works in a ski shop and was offered a comp room at a mountain within driving distance -- he and his friend went up yesterday (maniacs - the temps were sub-zero and the wind was horrific).

I texted to ask him how the day went and to make sure they were squared away at the hotel, and this is what he wrote back:

about the weather: "it was prrrrrretty bad but not unbearable"
about the hotel: "Our 1 room two double bed lodging sitch is one of the s**ttiest places I've ever stayed..."

He also said it was awesome, which I know meant they were thrilled to be on their own.

Yup, what will the next generation do if they have to stay in a room with only 1 television and no kitchen.

We just bought an iMac for Christmas and got the DVR/TV tuner option. The sales guy told me that we can use our iPhone as a remote to record programs and playback programs stored on the computer. How cool is that?

You should talk to DH. The kind of things he can do with his iphone is simply amazing.
          Sorry to side-track...

Older dd's first non-timeshare stay was when she was about 3 or 4. She was appalled that she didn't have her own room, her own bed, and no kitchen. She was sure she was going to starve.

Younger dd just stayed in a timeshare with no parents and a couple of friends a few months ago (Orlando so they could go to Disney). Dd gave her friends the master bedroom, with the Jacuzzi tub since she said it was apparent that neither of them was used to this type of accomodation.

I got my son a week in the Pocconos for mid Jan to go with his GF and friends. At first there were about 12 going now it is down to 4 with a 2 more that might go. Now he goes Snowboarding 1 maybe 2 times a year. He is telling me he needs a new board because this one is to small. It was good 3 years ago he did not grow that much, Any ideas on a place that will swap his Burton board for a new one?

I like the fact that he dissed the place and then said it was awesome. Teenagers. If they ever knew how many dives their parents stayed in back in the day...

The place DS works does a "ski swap" in the beginning of the season when they first open - but it's not really a swap -- they will try to sell your old stuff for you, and if it sells, then you get a credit at the store (minus whatever their commission is). Your best bet might be to try to sell it on ebay. When he stands it up against him it should be somewhere close to or a couple of inches below his chin (at most). My DS is always "needing" a new board, so it's a good thing he works in a board shop. Last season he had two, one for park and one for riding. I think this year he may have three. The snowboard companies know their suckers, I mean audience. Always some new "technology." But come on, it's a board, how technologically improved can it really get?

I have to check My son thinks it is to go to his nose maybe it is still good. I would not put it on ebay cause of the shipping. If he can not swap it then I rather just hold onto it for one of my nepews or sons friends.

My 10 year old DD is APPALLED when we, occassionally, have to stay in a timeshare studio for ONE night - this is when we ATV for the weekend.

DH was APPALLED when he had to even consider staying in a one bedroom unit in Key West with his buddy this past year. I reminded him that several years ago he would have gladly camped in a tent on Duval for the chance to go for a week. Now it's all "only a one bedroom?" and "can't you get something closer?" and "this place doesn't look as nice as that other place".
