  • OMG 8 inches of snow

It has disabled the south. Thank goodness it hit on a weekend. The bad news is I had to take Kelli to work. We were lucky in my area that we did not have ice. I just took it slow and drove my old Honda instead of my mini. The malls closed and hardly any restaurants were open. We just go screech!!!

The grocery store Kelli worked at closed at 7:30 and I just stayed in the car watching people try to get in. One lady got upset and she yelled why are they closing ? it's not even bad out here. I said it's really bad because we don't have the right equipment to deal with it. She said she was from Minnesota and this was nothing. I just laughed and told her just wait. The schools will be closed all next week because the busses can't get up the side steets.

    Here's to a safe journey !! shaggy

    Leslie,
Does your area have snow plows? We only have the one up at Mt. Charleston, so when the big snow hit last year we were up sh*t creek. They ended up using construction equipment to clear some of the main streets.

    Be safe and warm...

With what we get charged up here, I bet you could get a herd of our off-season landscapers (aka pickup trucks w/snowplows) down 95 lickity split.

My niece was driving through it on her way to visit a friend in Virginia....She said it took her 9 hours to get there. Normally it would take her 5-6.

        Stay safe!

We lived in the Tidewater Virginia area ( Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Williamsburg) there is 8" of snow in my neighbor. Did I said snow it is more like frozen snow than the soft snow this early Sunday morning.

Yes, Fern, we have snow plows but they are mainly used on the interstate highway system. Like Interstate 64 East - West Richmond to Virginia Beach.

Words of caution for today stay off the highways. There is more ice on the roads than snow.

I feel bad for you guys down there. When we get snow up here in NY we are expecting it and they are pretty well prepared to deal with it, but, I remember when my son was at school in Chapel Hill,NC he would say that a couple of inches would cripple the city, so I can imagine that 8 inches brings things to a standstill. Hang in there Shaggy, the up side is it probably won't last long.....

I called Foxrun/Fairway of the Mountains in Lake Lure North Carolina on Friday to pay my MFs - I got a recording at 2 pm stating they were closing the office early because of the pending weather and then gave further instructions for people arriving that day! I was really surprised by this.

It sure has been a crazy weather winter so far, hasn't it?

Shaggy, stay safe and maybe u should trade in one of your cars for a 4 wheel drive SUV!

Las night our sons treated my DH and me to dinner to celebrate our birthdays. One from nearby made it. One from Philly made it but it took a long time. One from Virginia left at 1 PM, at 4 PM was only just below Baltimore, called and said they were returning home because snow was getting worse, traffic was getting worse and roads were getting worse. He didn't get back home until after 9PM. It took us over an hour to drive to the restaurant, which is usally a 30 minute drive. The further south, the worse the snow.

The south is pretty funny when it comes to snow. We have snowplows but they only do the main roads and we don't have enough to do the sideroads maybe they will get to us sometime in about a week. Me thinks the grocery stores have a thing going on with the weatherman. They say the "S" word and blam, no bread or milk on the shelves. The schools let out early even if there is no snow or sometimes we don't even get snow!!

Here I am sitting here in my pjs on the computer just typing away like a little ole dokey bird cause I've got the cold from he-- and I can't get out to take pics Enough of this pitty party-- we have electricity. Yay

                    Y'all stay warm and safe!!

Our little lake backroad, which I got upgraded and turned over to the county five years ago, got salted/sanded twice during the storm, and plowed down to the ashpalt within five hours after the last snowflake fell.

Previously, anyone here during a major storm was stranded until it melted, once as long as 25 days.

Ahhhh Shaggy.... are you thinking of your Florida trip right now??

Years ago when I lived in Buffalo NY, we were on a small side street. When we had big snow falls (10+ inches) we knew the plows would not get to us for a week. If you waited until then, the street was lined with big ice tracks/ruts and that was worse to maneuver. So... most people just continued shoveling the street in front of their property when they did their driveways and sidewalks! There would be a few houses that did not do it, but all in all it was our way in or out of the neighborhood.

                            71 degrees down here.

My ceiling fan is on right now.

Y'all need to hop on a plane and get down here before it gets worse.
