  • Do any of you use a scale for weighing ingredients in a recipe?

If you weigh ingredients by a scale, what scale do you use? Seeking recommendations.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

I have a few scales, but I never recall using them for a recipe. I seldom even measure by the ounce and just guestimate what to add in to most of the recipes. The only exception I can think of is mixed drinks and sometimes not even that.

I've been pleased with the Weightwatchers scale: compact, accurate, and easy to use, as well as being inexpensive.

They make little ones that have bowls that fit right on top. I have a new one (from Woot!) that lets you reset the tare weight every time, so you can use whatever bowl you have lying around.

I've heard weighing works really well for baked goods, especially cakes. It's more precise than measuring. But I never do it. Maybe now I'll start, now that I have this little scale.

Found a scale that was left when one of my renters moved out. It maybe similar to the one wacky has. The ability to set the tare weight is important.

I am going to keep watching this thread for a different type scale. I need a scale to replace my triple balance beam scale (great scale, but very slow to set up and verify weights) that I use when weighing out spices for my food smoking: spicy meat sticks, sausage, brats, etc. The blend is usually for 25 pounds of meat. I usually do 10 pounds so the packages usually get broken down into grams. Also do grams when weighing out chemicals for the wine making. If you know of a very small quantity/weight scale, I am interested.

Oh, I think you might need a pharmaceutical scale. Try a scientific supply place maybe? I just looked at American Science and Supply (American Science & Surplus : Items Just Off the Truck, great website), and they have one little one that probably isn't right.
